Last night's B-52s concert

First off, Kate Pierson is one month away from 60 yeas old.. I think she's the oldest member of the group. Anyway, she more than the other three still maintains more of the former B-52s gusto.
They came on stage and the crowd was on their feet right away. The thump of the bass really was hitting fast and hard. No distortion, and it was plenty loud. Loud enough so you could feel the bass in your chest. That's exactly how you want to hear this band.
I guess If I had to categorize their music it would probably fall into this genre... pop-sufer-new wave-PARTY BAND! Their music just makes you want to get up and move your body. The bass is nearly identical in every song though.. but you have to take it for what it is though too.
A few disappointments though during the 75 min show.
They came out strong, but after about 5 or 6 songs, they lost their enthusiasm and the girls weren't moving around as much. Half way through the show, when they sang Roam and Love Shack, they got their second wind, and the show was good again.
They left the stage and came back for a three song encore. The last song of the night was of course...... wait for it.........
Rock Lobster.
Kate can do some amazing things with her voice. Things I used to think were done with a synthesizer were not, they are coming from Kate's vocal cords.
The other downer, is they didn't play up to the crowd much.. very little interaction with the crowd.. and none at all between any of the other members of the band. It was as if they didn't like each other.. which may or may not be true. You know how when you go to a concert and one of the lead group members will usually thank the bass player and the keyboard player and drummer, etc? Well they all just bowed together and left the stage and that was it.
It wasn't the best concert I've been to, or the worst.. but like anyone who ages, and we all do. Time does indeed take it's toll on a person.
I wish I had seen them 15 yrs ago, I'm sure I'd be writing this differently.
checkin' out of the Love Shack..
