I have a Denon 3801 and it has worked well with my SDA 3.1tl and CRS. I wanted more power so I purchased (2) NAD 2700 Power amp for the main and rear. I still use the 3801 for my side surrounds and back surround. I am very please with the denon.

I'm currently running an AVR-5700>RT-7 which is top notch. I was watching a basic Dolby Pro-Logic surround laser yesterday (Home Alone) and was really impressed with the depth and clarity of the sound from a fairly ordinary soundtrack. Previous receiver was an AVR-3200. Very nice as well, but not as rich and detailed as the 5700. Then again, the list for the 5700 was about 3x that of the 3200 . . . I've heard a lot of good things about the current 4802 ($2k) and of course the flagship 5803 ($4k). But if you don't *need* 8 channel surround, you can pick up a used 5700 for about 1/2 the price of a 4802! Well worth the investment if the previous owner treated it well (as mine did)!!!

I have a team of Denon and Polk RTs...great combo
Depending on your budget I recommend
AVR-3803 --Retail $1100 online around $900 (crazyeddieonline.com)
incredible bang for the buck...very similiar to Denon's flagship AVR-5803!
more reasonable is the...
AVR-1803 --Retail $499 online unk?
many processing options like DD EX, DTS ES discrete/matrix, 6.1 capable..etc...
either will give you alot for the money...very warm sounding...not much to look at, but they are nice units.
for more info on Denon...try audioreview.com and then under Discussion goto Home Theater...a ton of Denon info -
I also have the Denon 1803 with Polk RMS6700 an Velodyne CHt10 sub. Only had it for a couple of weeks so still exploring Sounds terrrific!! You can get a better price online than $499. Try CrazyEddie, for example.
