HD DVD...it was a fun ride.

Well, I have around 40+ HD DVD's and today I hit Best Buy and Circuit City to see if there were any final titles that I couldn't live without. When I arrived, not one HD disc left on the shelves...they've disappeared into the vapor. All shelf space is now dedicated to Bluray. I'll eventually convert over, but I guess my Twister and Matrix Trilogy purchase will have to be ebay or Amazon as there are no more HD DVD's to be found locally.

It was fun Toshiba...better luck next time. :)

Target had about three HD titles. I heard they were going to change up the PS3, because not as many games are being sold, because a lot of people are buying it to use as a blu-ray player. I could be wrong.

I had my HD-DVD for my Xbox for awhile now, but only ever had the movie that came with it (King Kong), and I bought a few HD-DVD eye candy disks (A view from Space, etc) and the Planet Earth docu. They were just still too expensive--I don't like to pay more than $10 for even a regular DVD title.

Now that the war is over, the prices I saw in the stores were still $25 and $30 a pop. Once I saw a whole lotta movies online (Amazon, etc), some for $8, $12, etc-I said ahh what the hey, why not. I even picked up an HD-A3 on ebay for cheap (I just can't stand the noise of the XBox nor the thought of getting the red-ring of death just to watch an HD-DVD.)

I figure-I can get a couple dozen movies in HD, for less than the cost of the reg DVD version-how can I go wrong? I may even pick up a few that I wouldn't normally buy-seeing it in HD may make it a whole new view. Besides I want to play with hearing some of the newer audio codecs. I'll go BluRay-just no way right now-Still way way to expensivo.

The ride isn't over yet, at least not for me. My XA2 isn't going anywhere. In the last 2 months, I've hoarded about 40 HDDVDs, and have my eyes set on another 10-20 if the price is right. I've held off buying only those that fall in the $12 or less price bracket. This week Circuit City has 50% off HDDVDs. The problem is, their website has prices averaging around $15-$25, but in the store, they are marked $25-$35. I tried today, unsuccessfully to get them to give me online pricing and the 50% discount. I know some people are getting this. It depends on the manager I guess. With a discounted price of $7.50-$12.50, I'd probably buy about 15 discs. But, at $12.50-$17.50, I decided not to get any. I'll try later in the week and see if the weekday manager has a different attitude.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I had about 25 HD-DVDs, they've all been sold and I've already begun replacing some of those titles with Blu. I've got 2 Blu-ray players now and am looking to add a third shorty, the BD-50 most likely. The only SD-DVD player in the house now is in the tool shed being used as a CD player, and as soon as I get some time my HD-A1 is getting pulled from my theater and sold. It's just been collecting dust for well over 4 months now. I just don't use it anymore so there's no reason to keep it around.

I though about keeping it and buying up a bunch of HD-DVDs on the cheap but it's a dead format and those same movies will be out on Blu. So maybe I'll have to wait a bit longer for some titles, big deal, much better then having to deal with two formats and multiple players in the house.

On top of all that I've got about 125 SD-DVDs pulled from my collection that I don't watch or that have been replaced with Blu that will be going up for sale or given to family / friends. I don't buy SD-DVDs at all anymore either.

most recent purchase for me is "i am legend" on hd dvd, slated for a release of april 8th. blu-ray version was out first this time and i rented it and watched it today. well, too bad i just wasted money on the movie itself as a blind-buy, because it sucked. but anyway, yeah, i chose to purchase the hd dvd version as one of my last "farewell's" to the format.:(

I agree most of the HD DVD movies will be out on BR but probaby double the cost.

I own both but If I can pickup a movie on HD DVD for $8 -$10 NEW I will instead of waiting for it to come to BR for $29.99. Just doesnt make any sense to me. Either does selling HD DVD titles just to rebuy them on BR when the price will still be way to high.

I don't think I've ever paid $29.99 for a Blu title, if you're paying that your just not shopping around and only hitting up the B&M's. I've paid between $15 & $20 for my titles.

Definitely. J&R usually has some decent sales, and Amazon has had a couple of good BR sales as well. I refuse to pay $30 for a single movie.

I have damn near the whole catalog. Minus the HDNet and other niche titles that aren't actually "films". Roughly 350-370 (recounted a minute ago).

It's not going anywhere for me and I'll buy into BR when I can get a DF player that's not LG and is worth a damn. I bought a backup A35 to store in the closet and it'll stay there incase anything happens.

Although the death of HD-DVD is indeed apparent, my movies still work and my players still work. They aren't going anywhere.

Nah. I'd say in the last 2 weeks I've picked up a good majority of my catalog, 100-125. But how do you pass up $5-15 HD movies ? Yeah it's a bad deal for some due to the format, but I'm an HD lover completely - it's hard for me to go back.

But yeah I jumped in, but it was a worthy investment, especially because I wanted HD-DVD to succeed from a pure "consumer" point of view.

Which is exactly why I am investing so much in my "Home Theater"-Its a much better experience at home. No slippery floors, no noisy ignorant teens (darn kids these days ;) ), I can pause/rewind, and Free refills on my Rum and coke ....

Only exception to me are the 'Must See on the Big Screen or IMAX' movies-Most of the time I can wait until it comes out on DVD (a general term).

Hah, I was thinking that as I was typing my response. I honestly don't go to the theaters much at all anymore. Silly expensive, and more and more movies are "miss" than "hit". I did see No Country For Old Men in the theater. Great film, but I'd have rather watched it at home with noone around to complain about it being slow or jabbering on about nothing.

Last flop (personal opinion) that I wasted my money on was Dragon Wars. I was so hyped to see it, but, well I won't review it here, but DAMN AWFUL acting and swiss cheese for a plot. My wife and I were constantly looking at each other in disbelief. And I dragged her out to see it  There was some cool CGI, but that's about it.

That's a meaningless figure. It's a "forecast" operating loss -- it's based on sales Tosh thinks it would have received if HD-DVD took off. It's not like Toshiba actually spent $665.5 milion on HD-DVD technology and won't recoup its investment. Hell, Tosh expects a net income of 1.28 billion this year, so they aren't gonna lose any sleep over HD-DVD.

1.28 billion is nothing compared to the 1.8* billion of operating costs.

Sure looks like they did lose a lot of money in general and project to lose a lot more.
