Whoooo hooooo! You've got a shot at some excellent speakers there! The RTA12's are very highly thought of around here & are considered to be the top of the RTA pack. I've got a pair of the 12C's & I love them.

Average price for a pair in excellent condition, which those appear to be in, is around $200. People have paid less and people have paid more, but for the sound they produce, they're worth far, far more IMHO.
**Edit** I bought mine on ebay - they're absolutely mint - for $202, but paid $300 more w/shipping and packaging (ouch!), but they were STILL worth it.

Do a search on them here and you'll learn loads - I did.

I love my RTA-12c's, paid $150 on CL and they would be a bargain at twice the price! I read hear that some are vinyl some are real wood veneer, the wide picture looks like vinyl but the tweeter/crossover detail picture looks like wood. From what I understand they will take as much power as you can throw at them, I am only giving them 65 watts from my HK AVR and they just sing!

Great speakers. I have the 12B's with peerless tweeters.

I'd say at the right price $200 or less they'd make a nice addition. If you are hoping to own SDA's at some point in the future then pass and save your money for those.

thank you for all the input, i appreciate the help. the seller has listed $300, so ill see what i can get him down to. also, since i am still learning all there is to know, are these runner up to the sda's in terms of their performance?

    Hey Nick,
I have my SDA2a's with upgraded crossovers, Solen caps and Mills resistors ready for you. You can listen to them for while and see what you think.
By the way, Nick is a friend of mine and co-worker. I suggested that he listen to the SDA2a's before buying something else.
Nick, it is critical you find out if the receiver you intend on using is common ground. Either call the manufacture or maybe some of the guys here can help you out.

Most seem to think so. However there are some lurking here who believe they'll go toe to toe w/the SDA's & fair well.

I've only heard one pair of SDA's, so I don't count.

Great speakers for around $200 or so; these appear to be vinyl. Maybe a little more if they are local and in excellent condition. I have been very impressed with my RTA-12c's although I have not listened to them much lately since I have upgraded my SDA-1C's.

Check the top tweeter covers over well, they are frequently beat-up on this model and can be a pain to restore.

They image great, but in my opinion they are no match for SDA's (at least my 1C's)

I would agree very nuch so as I have compared 12bs right next to SDA1 in my room and liked the 12s better. Would be nice to hear some 1Cs or larger SDAs.
