I was just at circuit city and they had rt3000p's for sale open box. top part was $150 each, and the bottom was I think $399 each(could be less). I just got a pair of RT2000p used only about a month ago. I got those for $850 for the pair shipped. I am thinking about just getting the top part. anyone have any ideas? How much better are the 3000 over the 2000?

in my opinion i think both the 200o and the 3000 are bass heavy no matter if you turn down the bass or not. but i would go with the 3000 if it was me

The room the speakers are in is very large, and strange shaped. I lose alot of bass.

I am more asking about the overall sound quality.

I would think the 3000's would be bettter mid-range providers than the 2000's...since the extra driver... kind of like betweent the 600 and 800...

buy what You liked to hear....

I don't think they'll let you buy just the top part. if that's what you want, get some rt55i's they are very similar.

If you have the 800's and a sub... why would you want to move to the 2000's... 3000's would be more logical... Is there something wrong with your current setup that you need more bass? maybe you just need to improve your sub- what ever it is...

    just food for thought

I'm not familar with an a/b compare of the two sets, I'm quite familar with 3000s though, owning them. I'm extremely happy with them.

    IMHO:
The price for the complete 3000s you quoted is a steal!

Too bass heavy even when turning them down? I can't relate to that statement. I certainly don't agree with it.

The rt55i's sustitutes? Nice speakers? Yes, but still not quite close enough to be considered an equal substitute to the 3000 sats when push comes to shove (with an amp). The 3000 sats are more sensitive to begin with and can handle quite a bit more power.

Don't forget: Polk DESIGNED the 3000 subs and sats to work TOGETHER. Need I say more on that point?

The RT2000s are nothing but "posers". If you really want a highly underated and perhaps best-in-class-for-the-money, get the RT3000s and run them with a quality amp and pre-amp. Something that can drive nails into the woodwork all day long at a half ohm is perfect. Best is with a min. 300 wpc of CLEAN high current/high voltage power. Only then, can you open up the full potential of the satellite part of the 3000 system. I've run them side-by-side against other front facing towers,....top value on the market today. Obviously, more cash can get you more quality (sometimes) but I am convinced Polk has snuck in a prize-fighter that missed a lot of media attention. Suits me fine, since I own a pair!
