SDA CRS+ as rear speakers?

Well, trying to enter the current century. I got the pair of SDA CRS+ new in 86, running just two channels for music with a Sony receiver, same vintage. Using a 10" Polk woofer, 4 years old....

Just bought a new small home, and new 46" Sony LCD.

So, HT for me, but the SDA's will NOT fit on front wall, so I can only use them in the rear, so what should I do for the fronts (and center)? I have to use bookshelf style.

LSi 7 maybe? I am clueless in knowing how to match the sound...budget wise and physical size they seem to fit. Is that unscientific enough?

I need to buy a HT receiver, $500 is the budget number for that, I guess... I am not a true Audiophile, or HT techie...When I go to 2 channel stereo mode, can I get a 5.1 or higher to run the rear SDA's for my music (mostly old rock and folk)?

There are some much more knowledgeable people here, especially with regard to HT which I know very little about. My gut feeling is that it would be a huge waste of such a nice set of speakers (the CRS+) to use as rears. Others will chime in I'm sure. Welcome btw.

They'll be fine. Go for it.

Here's an option - sell them and put the money towards the nicest pair of front speakers you can afford -- maybe Lsi9's. Used pairs go for $450 - $500. Take your time in build your HT system, but start with a solid front end.
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Unless you have fronts that can keep up with or exceed your CRS+, then I think it's a waste. Maybe the 9s can. I'm using a loaner pair right now and find it kind of a waste, but they timbre match my 1Cs for a wonderful HT.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

I wouldn't mix modern and vintage Polks in a HT system, they're not timbre matched.

Could you fit a pair of Monitor 7's up front instead?

Or sell the CRS's and look into a all LSi home theater.

All good advice, and I think I am going to keep my two channel setup alone, and build a separate HT. Trying to do too much....thanks to all
