FXi A3 Placement / Input

Hey all - I just have a placement/input question that I'm hoping to resolve. I have a pair of FXi A3's mounted on my back wall to the left and right of my couch which is also against the back wall. They are in the proper L - R setting with the mid ranges facing away and are set to bipole. I have a 5.1 setup with RTi A3 fronts, CSi A4 center and a sub. My question is this: I have an Onkyo 705 and have the FXi's connected to the side surround inputs, should I change this to the rear surround inputs? Does it matter? When I run Audyssey it looks more like the side surround is the proper setting in the diagram shown because the speakers are on the sides of the listener and actually about a foot back of the listener and are not really behind the listener at all. Does it matter? And I'm wondering if because I have this set-up, should I switch the FXi's so that the mid ranges are firing in instead of out and away? Thanks for any input!!

For a 5.1 setup, your surrounds should be "side surrounds". The rears are the next two channels to make a 7.1 setup. As far as switching left and right; give both ways a test run and see which sounds better to you.

I have the fxi A4's as both surrounds and rears. I have tried both dipole and bipole for the surrounds (sides) and find that when listening to movies that are in 5.1, I prefer them set to dipole. I'd play around a bit with the options and see what you like best. That's what I did.

Not a prob. In no time at all you'll find yourself closing your eyes during a movie just to enjoy the sound alone.
