DVI to HDMI, where did the sound go?

About a week ago I hooked up my Onkyo tx-sr805 with my Polk's (which work wonderfully I have to say). I already bought a HDMI-HDMI cable to connect the receiver to the TV, and also a DVI-HDMI to connect my notebook to the receiver (since my notebook only has a DVI out as digital out).
Now the resolution and scaling look really good on the tv, but I just can't figure out how to get the sound with the video together. The receiver obviously 'thinks' both the video as the audio signal are fed by the HDMI input. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

    DVI doesn't carry sound...you'd have to feed audio into your reciever from the sound card in your notebook.

    yes, I understand that. The problem is that I can't find a way to select an alternate source for audio when i'm viewing the DVI via the HDMI in in the receiver. So now I can either choose for solely the sound or solely the video.
    I tried to put HDMI in1 to AUX1 and also connect the sound card of the notebook to the receiver AUX1 component inputs via RCA cable, but that configuration doesn't work. Anyone familiar with this problem?

    When you assign HDMI to AUX1 in video settings menu, it automatically defaults the corresponding audio to HDMI also . You need to go into audio settings menu and unassign the HDMI to AUX1.

    This happens to me on my Sony KD-34XBR960 TV. There's no way to tell it that the audio is NOT coming from the HDMI port, instead use the analog audio inputs below it. But for some reason power cycling the TV and DVI component(s) solves the problem, I think the TV auto-detects but sometimes it "thinks" there is audio on the HDMI-DVI cable.
