You could be overloading your speakers. Drop the volume.

The smell is a combination of glue, heated speakers and pressed wood. Or maybe this is where Micah hides his socks."The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it."

Mx, what are you driving your speakers with? what receiver/amp? I've never smelled anything but sweet sounds pouring our of my Polks. ha ha ha.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Yammaha!
Thats your problem. They just don't smell right with Polks. Try a Denon for that sweet smell. Better yet, get seperates. They make a speaker smell the best. I know when I went from my Denon receiver to the seperates I was stunned by the difference in the odor factor. BTW, what cables do you have?

Bottom line.. electronic components can have odors. No doubt ALL of our speakers have SOME odor.. maybe you've just never been close enough to notice. If it isn't a downright burning smell, if there is no smoke or distortion.. just enjoy it and don't worry.

I have the classic HD wires -- and I will probally end up buying a seperate amp for my speakers so I can do some heavy duty upgrades to end this effin AUDIO OBSESSION! MUAHAHAHAHAHA! LOL! jk, I am getting a seperate amp to play these speakers loud. This smell is the smell they first had when i got them, and they were ran like this for two weeks - then I sold my sony receiver, then 5 months later I got all the rest of my system, and they have never been ran with bass since then. So I think it is the new smell getting ran out of em still, since my subwoofer is half blown and i gotta run some bass on the speakers.Damn you all, damn you all to hell.......

I've noticed this too, but I've figured it out to be the smell of the inside of the cabinets being brought forth by the air blasting out of the port :-). If I play 'em hard for a few minutes, my entire room begins to smell like it. I love my 5jr speakers... standing an arm's length and a half away (quite a ways away for me) I can still feel the air coming out and hitting my face :-) Not just a light breeze, either... some hair-moving wind out of those little speakers.
