DX 3065 6.5" component system tweeter problem

i just installed a Polk DX 3065 6.5" component system and am having a problem with my tweeters. there is always static coming out of them, not unlike the static from a record player. you can't hear it when everything is playing, but during a slow or quiet part in the music, you can hear it very audibly. anyone know what might be causing this and how i can get rid of it? i was wondering if it might be in the speaker wire. my setup is this: speaker level to RCA converter off the receiver (front speakers) to amp. amp to crossover, crossover to speakers/tweeters. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Is the excess speaker cable in any way fashioned into a loop, or circle of some sort? If so, do not store the excess that way. The loop can actually act as a radio antenna, and introduce noise or actual radio programming into your system. Only thing I can think of. Good luck.

    thanks for the help. the speaker wire isn't, but i have about 3 extra feet of RCA cable that i have coiled up under the carpet. could that be the problem?

    If that doesn't do it, start checking for any other electrical components that could be on the same line. Refrigerator, washing machine, stuff like that. How about a light dimmer switch? Those can really be nasty sources of noise in a system.

    I never thought about the RF/antenna issue, with the coiled up wire. I have a system set up in the room here by my computer and recently replaced the Advent bookshelf speakers I was using with some RT55i's. Since that time, I've noticed that I'm picking up somebody's two-way radio. It happens whenever I have my amp on, and it seems to really amplify the signal, regardless of the volume setting (even if the volume is all the way down, as long as the amp is on). Very strange, and annoying. My system in the adjacent room is unaffected, but I do hear the guy on my phone sometimes. I don't believe I have any excess wire coiled up. I just thought I'd chime in with that.

    I've always heard not to coil up wire because, in the presence of a magnetic field, current will be induced in the wire.

    I think it's a car stereo system that Josh is having the noise problem with. Could it be ignition or alternator noise?

    Refrigerator, washing machine ???? lol george.

    hey, i'm going out on a limb and sayin that you installed the 3065's in your car ?

    How many sets of preamp outputs do you have on your radio ? It could be because your using the line converter ??

    let us know what happens...

    I think George, like me, was assuming that a car question would have been posted in the car forum....

    Somebody wants to have a good laugh at my expense, have at it. When you're wrong, you're wrong. I didn't know that it was car stereo. Just not a very happenin' guy. I'm trying though.

    Thanks Troy. Obviously "happenin" is different things to different people. Hey, I can't answer car stereo questions. BIG shortcoming huh?

    Theoretically, you could put anything you wanted in a car I suppose and it STILL would not be a SHARK.

    i've only got one set of preouts on my receiver and that goes to the amp for the subwoofer. i've got converters for both rear and front speakers. the rear goes to the same amp as the sub (4-channel) and the front to a seperate 2-channel amp...

    It COULD be a home stereo question. But what if it isn't and I give the wrong answer. They're just going to laugh at me again. But what if it IS a home stereo question, and I have the chance to help, but I don't. Then I'm going to feel bad about that. Oh man, I'm in such a bad jam here. I wish I wasn't such a sensitive person, with needs and desires, just like others.
