When a DVD gives you audio options, what do you prefer to use if oyu have choices? I have some that include DTS or DTS ES 6.1 Discrete which also have DD EX.
I'm not sure I've tested enough to see a huge difference or which is better or why.
I do know, using THX Cinema or EX with DD sometimes make it sound "small". I know it's supposed to manipulate the audio which was developed for large scale cinema, for our small home viewing, but it sometimes makes it too small and emptier.
Once, DTS seemed not as robust, but sounds seemed more distinct. Maybe.
Sometimes I think, I know, I'm still over analyzing.

+1
DTS all the way when it's an option.No excuses! -
+2 I always choose DTS when there is a choice. However, it seems as though they are no longer releasing standard dvds with that option.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

i just bought Enchanted in sd and it is in DTS...and yes i'm a little embarrassed:o -
DTS all the way....the steering between the channels with moving objects on screen is much more accurate with better realism. I ALWAYS check the disc to see if DTS is available.The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club

DTS. Sometimes, I'll even go back and buy a newer version of a DVD I own just for DTS.
Sick? Perhaps but movies with whimpy audio sucks. -
DTS all the way. Having encoded my own mixes in both DD and DTS I can easily tell you that DTS retains the original fidelity in regards to dynamic range, high and low end detail much better than DD. The mix has to be compensated much more for DD than it does encoding to DTS.
Also DTS ES is a discrete center surround whereas DD EX is a matrixed center surround also lower average bitrates with DD.// Panasonic AE8000 // Pioneer SC-57 // Polk Audio RTi A9 // Polk Audio CSiA6 //
// Polk Audio FXi A6 // SVS PB12-NSD Subwoofer // Logitech Harmony Ultimate // Pro-Ject Debut III //
// Oppo BDP-103 // Microsoft Xbox One Day One Edition // Sony Playstation 4 1TB SSHD // Nintendo Wii U //

it doesn't make any difference with the exception being the .1 which seems to be slightly better with dts, dts gets picked by the mod squad because its there and something different to select. I always pick dts if the disc has it.
I guess my HT is just weak. -
ok let's go a step further. for those of you who have experienced dolby true hd. how does it square off with dts. not dts hd, just dts.

DTS...:cool:

considering DTS bitrate is somewhere in the ballpark of 1.5-1.8 Mbps and TrueHD is around 15-18 Mbps . i think i would have to go with TrueHD. it is lossless. i havent heard any but just hearing the bitrate diffrences DTS over DD made i would think TrueHD would be wonderful.
