SDA SRS 1.2 TL question
I have a pair of SDA SRA 1.2 TL's that I inherited a few years back. I had been using them as main speakers for my Home Theater system, and occassionally to listen to music. Driving them is a Yamaha HT-5860 home theater amp/receiver.
I have them for sale right now but I don't think that I'll be able to sell them before I move, so I'm probably going to wind up keeping them once they're in storage.
My question is:
Many people have told me that they're not really optimally used for HT. What then is their optimal use? Should I just put them aside in another room or something (once I have the space again) for just listening to music? And can anyone tell me whether my amp/receiver combo is good for driving these or should I get something else once I'm ready to use them again?
I don't know a lot about home audio, so I'm not really sure what is the best use for these speakers and what equipment I should use in conjunction with them.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Keep them
get a better more powerful AMP, not a receiver. AMP
use them in a 2channel stereo system..
sit back and enjoy!
SRS's need good clean power.. in the range of 250 wpc+ to bring them to life.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

I use mine strictly in a 2 channel rig and I love them so I would say keep them.
Hi Mark! -
I use mine for HT with no problem. I think SDA's are great for HT. I don't have room for a center that can keep up with my L/R so I set my PrePro for no center. Voices come from the middle like they are supposed to. The only draw back is SDA's deserve to be in a nice high end 2 channel setup. I can't afford 2 separate systems. Integrates well with dual duty setup.
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Don't listen to all these people - they're really not that good, you should just give them to me...Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

You're right, I should give them to you...just give me $1750 and they're yours to pick up at your convenience
Seriously, sounds like most people use them for straight stereo, just for music purposes?
Or, if you use them with a TV, do you only use 2 channels?
I've noticed that when I use them as my front mains, they tend to create a surround effect on their own (I guess that's the SRS design), so I kind of like them for HT. I never crank the volume that much (my wife won't let me ) anyway, and I don't really sit around listening to music regardless.
Can anyone recommend a good AMP for these? What I'm thinking is to get an AMP with an optical input, run an optical output from the receiver to the AMP to power the speakers. Then I can listen to music, watch HT, etc. Or will that not work, to put an AMP in-line with the receiver?
I'm really a novice at these types of home audio electronics, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks. -
Here are mine, My Fiancee lets me crank them up as much as I want

I use them for 2 Channel CD's & SACD and I used them for HT

So how do you use them for HT and 2-channel audio - do you use an AMP in-line with the receiver in speakers? -
Preamp/pre-pro/receiver->amp->speakers(SDA's)
If using a receiver, you can use it to power the center and rear channels."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
So can anyone recommend what else I need (including some suggested model types) to work with my Yamaha HT-5860 receiver? Do I just need an AMP behind it, or do I anything else in front of my receiver besides the actual input devices themselves (which I intend to use my LG dvd player for movies and CD music, and my digital cable for digital music). I'd prefer to stick with Yamaha if possible. Thanks.
