I bought Carl's 2.3's today, and love them.

I took a short road trip today and met Carl about halfway between Tyler and Houston and took possession of his 2.3's with the infamous SL2000wc tweeters. Since the caps were already installed I figured I would give them an audition before I removed them. After about 2 hours of listening, removing caps from one side, more listening, removing caps from other side, more listening, adding caps back to one tweeter, and then more listening, I finally came to a decision. I prefer the tweeter without the cap. The caps, for whatever reason, did remove some of the harshness but I could not really hear a big difference. It is possible my hearing does not extend to the higher frequencies, making the SL2000 bearable as is.
Even though I did not agree with Carl I am not going to dog him either. He is a really nice guy and pleasant to talk to. He feels he has found something good and wants to share it with other people. Giving the tweeter a made up model # is a little over the top and could confuse some people, so that part I do disagree with. Carl, enjoy your tweak, but I think it is now time to leave it out of any future thread.
I am now going to enjoy my 2.3's and start planning a rebuild of my SRS 2's.

Allow me to provide CL's response. You know, save him the trouble.candyliquor35m wrote:
I have not heard the system you tested the cap on that I gave you. I'm not even using that cap anymore. It doesn't sound as good as the ones I'm using now. So I have to take your word that it didn't sound good to you.
That doesn't mean they don't sound good on mine. Your system is totally different from mine from top to bottom.

I love how music can brighten up a bad day. -
And we both forgot our cameras
I'm glad I didn't go to lunch with you and your son. We would have sat there forever talking about audio and would have never got home.
It worked out perfect tho. I backed up my pathfinder to the back of your sequoia and slid 2 casket size boxes from mine to yours. I'm glad there weren't any cops around.
It will be interesting to see whether you keep the 2.3's or the srs 2's. -
I forgot to mention the hot lady and her 20 year old daughter that walked up to us in the parking lot and wanted us to party with them in their travel trailer. Neither one of us drink so we had to turn them down. Tex will confirm this "story"
Tex goes thru alot of audio equipment and has alot of knowledge and experience to share but fortunately for him he doesn't spend alot of time here -

I'd hit it"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul! -

Yep in some parts of East Texas moving them big boxes from one SUV to another would have aroused suspicion. I'll leave the Mother-Daughter story alone except to say I did go the school in East Texas and it is not a stretch...Polk Audio RTA 12c's, Monitor 7c, Monitor 5JR+, SDA CRS+

Sorry, didn't happen.
