I'd love to smack Bagged Lancer in the face with one.

had a neighbor on Maui who had quite the collection of tropical fruit trees on his lot....2 of these stinkers were within 20 yards of my house....have tried it didnt really like it...much much better tasty treats that dont stink ;)

Yeah. Had it in Hawaii. It's not bad if you can get past the stink. But hoooo boy is that some stink! There's not much on my stink scale that ranks higher and that's stuff like death, a lower GI bleed and other rotten things.

Durian is one stinky fruit. The only other food that smelled worst is "stinky tofu" (s.t.). We went on a vacation trip in China years ago, and we checked out the night market. We were two blocks from the night market, and we could smell very pungent odor. We asked the tour guide what it was, and she said it was "stinky tofu". The tour guide took us two long blocks to the s.t. shop, and I almost threw up when I got there.

Once you cut open the durian, you can eat the vanilla color stuff that covers the seed (3rd picture).

I was told that once you get past the horrible smell it tasted good. To me it tasted like it smelled. My ex is Thai and her family loves the stuff.
