If I want to bi-wire my Polk Monitor 40s do I need the same size wire for the driver as for the tweeter? Do they both connect to the same term on my reciever? Whats the best size wire for each?

    Hi, Welcome :)

do I need the same size?
In principle you can get away with different gauge for upper and lower posts, but I fail to see what you're truing to accomplish by it.

Do they both connect to the same term on my receiver?
Yup. that's the point in biwire. both '+' jacks on the speaker go to the amp's '+' jack, same for the '-'.

Whats the best size wire for each?
The longer the wire you need to run, the thicker you want it to be. I guess under 70-80 ft you should use 16 gauge, any longer, say until 180-200 ft go with 14, and above that, even 12 or 10.

I would not bother BiWiring the monitor series. Standard speaker wire from Walmart in the auto section would be fine for them. 14, or 12ga.

Tinman, bi-wiring is overrated with the exception of two or three folks that swear it made all the difference in the world. To each his own, I guess.

Make it four. I bi-wired my speakers and the highs do sound much crisper and cleaner than before.

I have found that some speakers do and some speakers do not benefit from bi-wiring.

Use jumpers. Or extra piece of speaker cable instead of oem.

Six... I had a huge improvement (Onk 705/RTi10s) but by using both Front and rear surround terminals (still dunno if this is biAmpling or biWiring). I really hadn't expected much, so was very pleasantly surprised.

I've wonder whether results also vary based on Reciever: how underpowered is it and how does it reallocate the power.

nonetheless, it's so simple to try, it's worth a stab. (if results aren't an obvious improvement, you can always go back to old setup.
    LR Setup:
    Polk RTi10's, RTi6's, CSiA6 (5 ch setup)
    Onkyo 705 & Denon 3808ci Receiver, Onk 875
    Parasound 2250 Amp
Sony 26" KDL series Bravia LCD
    Panny DMR-EH75 Recorder
Panny DVD-F87 (5 disk DVD player)
    NAD T585 (DVD/SACD)
    Yamaha DVD-C961 (5 disk SACD/DVD)
    SciAnt Explorer 8500HD Cable Box
    Orig & 5Gen iPods, , Wii

    Plans/Fantasies:
    • 400 disk player that handles ALL formats, sounds as good as NAD with Panasonic interface & compatability.
