Attached is a rough diagram of my HORRIBLE* setup:
Attachment not found.
LRSpeakerSetupLR.jpg

Not shown:
1. curtains which run along windows on left side
2. room has cathedral ceilings (with apex running along dashed horizontal line)

Need some advice on what to do about the Surrounds:
1. where to put Surrounds (my primary concern is music, not HT)

2. would I be better off going with FXi's for surrounds? seems they would 'radiate' sound better given awkward locale...
BUT: a polk phone tech had told me these only function properly when attached to wall
(not possible since one speaker will definitely run along a window)

All ideas and comments greatly appreciated.

*PS: location of 'Media Area' set up so that I have room for dancin' and aerobics.
Media cab not against wall cuz I'm always changin things.
LR Setup:
Polk RTi10's, RTi6's, CSiA6 (5 ch setup)
Onkyo 705 & Denon 3808ci Receiver, Onk 875
Parasound 2250 Amp
Sony 26" KDL series Bravia LCD
Panny DMR-EH75 Recorder
Panny DVD-F87 (5 disk DVD player)
NAD T585 (DVD/SACD)
Yamaha DVD-C961 (5 disk SACD/DVD)
SciAnt Explorer 8500HD Cable Box
Orig & 5Gen iPods, , Wii

Plans/Fantasies:
• 400 disk player that handles ALL formats, sounds as good as NAD with Panasonic interface & compatability.

Have you considered in-ceiling speakers? Or even mounting the FXi3s on the ceiling?

I also have a difficult room for placing my surrounds. I have the FXi3s and also the TC615i in-walls. I haven't settled for my final plan yet. I am still setting it up.
I have a room with lots of windowsm a floor to ceiling fireplace and open space where the surrounds would normally go. I also have a cathedral ceiling. So I feel your pain with figuring out where stuff should go.
I am considering putting the in-walls in the wall on one side and in the ceiling on the other side. Of course the one in the ceiling is the cathedral ceiling so it will be aiming about 45 deg. down as opposed to straight down. Not sure how it will sound yet though.

Curious--What is wrong with the RTi6s you have on stands now?

Had been thinking about ceiling ones also, but concerned about the angle issue, and I doubt they're as nice as the 6's (based on general heresay about builtins - nothing logical) and of course builtins provide zap opportunity for experimentation...

Nothing, except that there in very awkward locations visually and sonically - a little too direction specific for surrounds, move about and the sound varies dramatically... that's why I thought the fx's might work better.
