A long time ago....
The replacement tweeters were found to be too expensive so my pops made some plates out of wood but used silicone to seal against the box. Cruddy but he had the covers back then....and then used other tweets. The good news is that becuz of the silicone and the wood plates used... the original cavity was still intact. Cleaned up real phuken nice.
One pic is the before then the after installation of:
2 MW6503's
1 Monacor tweeter(I too found the Polk tweets too expensive)
Still have to re-do the XO....want to enhance whatever possible and if tweet requires a slight change then now would be the time...
They sound great.
Definitely happy with them. They hit bass notes better than the Seas ER18's.
The tweet sounds good...not sure if as precise as the original Peerless's but that was a looooooooooong time ago can't exactly remember.
Any suggested replacement parts for the XO welcomed.
I'm not interested in whiner's who claim mods or tweaks are worthless.

I suggest you replace the caps and leave the coils/resistors alone. Measure the resistors as best you can just in case. -
The resistors are <$2.50 each and easy to replace if you're already there. Why wouldn't you do it? If that's the tweeter you're going to use, you have to figure that into the design as well. It's not a perfect match.
I would do it right and rebuild the xover completely but that's just me. Most people don't bother with the inductors since it will increase the cost exponentially and throws a wrench in the drop-in replacement idea.

Well I couldn't resist and cleaned up the 2nd set.
Popped in the new tweeter.
Put back the XO that was at one point smelting the glue between the resistors and that one inductor.
Popped in the cheezy nippon drivers and fired both sets in unison.
Unbelievable.....got some Massive Attack pumping through them right now....and god damm.....I had truly phucken forgotten the religious experience these are.
Either the MW6503's are better or the older MW6500s I thought I fried were truly out of it. These tweets are magnificent...I got songs playing I thought sucked cat asso raising an eyebrow. The slightly muddy mids I wanted to clear up are coming in as clear as I wanted them.
Cannot hit the 13 mark on the receiver without strong shudders across the room. At 10 or 11 your already impressed.
Looks like the bad XO is just fine....I guess I'll know when I get the 2nd pair of MW's if it sustained some kind of damage but for the time being it's driving.
Price difference is that much more with the inductors being replaced...?
