Identifying Speakers

Hi, I have a pair of SDA SRS's that I inherited. I can't find the manuals right now - can anyone tell me how I could identify them? I inherited these a few years ago and enjoyed them since, but now I'm moving to a smaller place and would rather sell them to someone who will enjoy them rather than letting them sit in storage, if I can get a fair price (otherwise I'll keep them, as storing them doesn't cost me anything since I have the space anyway).

The last time I posted here some people were real jerks because they didn't feel that I was a "true Polk Audio-phile" and that I just wanted to know how much I could get for them, and that I was a jerk for wanting to sell something that I got from my grand-parents - I'm glad these people knew me so well to make those kinds of judgements over the Internet of someone who they never met. So I haven't posted since.

Other people were nice, and they asked me to list them for sale here before I do so on eBay. I will list it for sale here first, out of respect to those classy individuals but any of the people who were a hassel the first time around, please don't interefere with my threads and leave me alone.

I can't post it until I meet the minimum post count requirement of 25 according to the Flea Market's rules, so they won't be listed here immediately. Here are some pictures - I think that they are the SDA SRS 1.2 TL's. Also, if anyone has any market data on the going rate for a pair like this, please point me in the right direction. These pics are of only one speaker but the pair is obviously identical, except for Left/Right.

Thanks in advance for any help (the measurements are 63.5" H x 21.5"W by 13"D):

They appear to be SDA SRS 1.2's, not TL's. Unless someone corrects me. As to the value,
I have seen a range of 1200 to 1800. Your's look to be in very good condition. I will ask the
question first.... where are you located?

You know. Those tweeters look like SL3000's. Others will chime in here but I think that
    would suggest TL's.

They are SL3000. I don't recall the bolt pattern for either model but it is another way to identify them.

Relax on the past, it's history, move on and we'll assist you on the identification in the interim. Where are you located?

I'm fine with the past so long as the ugliness doesn't re-surface, so I just wanted to pre-empt it, as happened in this post: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26922 thanks to a user named TroyD, who obvious has some personality issues.

I did find the ID info in that thread though, so now I know they're model type - I have the original manuals somewhere packed, so I'm sure that I'll run across them sooner or later.

I'm in Park City, UT, so I can ship them from there, or, I'm moving to South Florida so I could ship them from there; however, if the latter, then I might ask a few dollars more in the price because I'll have to spend a little bit more moving them (not much though, maybe a $100 or there abouts).

But keep in mind that I can't officially post them for sale here until I meet the post count minimum of 25.

Whatever. I would probably bet you'd have more success on the east coast, FL area.....but it just depends on who's looking.

You do know that all you have to do to get to the minimum posts is join in some of the discussions, right?

FYI, we look out for each other here and if we don't know you from Adam it's hard to accept what you have to say. Please don't take this the wrong way as I'm only trying to help. Plus, if you join in the discussions it may turn out that you want to keep them. Placement, setting, amplification amongst other things play a large roll in to what you hear and you've got a great set of speakers.

May I ask what you don't like about them?

Tom - You know, sometimes, on an open user forum....public in other words, folks will join and create a discussion about a Polk product. This may lead to further discussion, purchase of a Polk product or the simple liquidation of a old or new Polk product. Who knows, who cares but how about trying to be helpful since that's what senior members should do anyways.

It's not gold and silver being traded here and it's buyer beware, everywhere. The place is policed just fine, without the immediate whistle blowing on every person who has a question in regards to a Polk product or the subsequent retail. Not every member wants to talk and engage membership either....get over it. It would be nice to add a regular member but the majority of new users have other objectives and you'll just have to find a way to respect that at some point.

Thanks, but I'm moving in a week and if I'm going to sell them I'd prefer to do so before they get loaded up...once they're in storage then I'll be much less incented to sell them. Given my packing schedule, I won't have time to be online enough to join in to the discussions. This is likely my last post here, other than an ad, if I get that far.

Other than the size, I love them - I just can't bring them in to my new place and I'd rather see someone who can appreciate them enjoy them; for all I know they could be sitting in that storage unit for a year before I can use them again. The unit is environmentally controlled, so I'm not worried about their condition in storage - I just hate to see them go to waste...but once they're in there, I'll probably just hang on to them for the day when I move in to a bigger place again.

Anyway, because I'm in a rush, I don't have time to join in to any discussions right now. I've asked the moderator of the flea market for special dispensation, but if he doesn't give it to me then I won't be able to post it for sale on this forum. I just wanted to give the people here first dibs because I know that this crowd can really appreciate them.

You won't be given special consideration. It's a forum rule. You may contribute to the forum at anytime and it has nothing to do with your overhead.

Dorok, thank you, that's very good to know that there are people with that viewpoint here.

Anyway, my goal of coming here this week was to try to offer you folks the first shot at these babies, as the last time I was here (when I first got them), some people went nuts for them and pleaded with me to offer them for sale here first, if/when I did decide to sell them.

Since you folks can appreciate them, I would rather see you get them than someone else who just wants a "big pair of speakers." These have some sentimental value to me due to the way that I got them, so I'd like to see them go to a good home.

Wow... that 25 post count is coming up fast! 10 to go!

Don't read too much into it as its all BS to me, but I'm defending the first round. That's my duty. I have better things to do and am very tired. The local crew is very vigilant in the FM and its a good thing overall.

Good luck but at this point, you're on your own.

Also, has anyone here shipped a pair of these? In case they do sell, I'm wondering what people have done to ship items as large as these, that can't afford to be tossed around to hard. Are they palletized? Possibly strapped down over the top?

For my move, they'll just put them on the truck, pad them, and tie the down. But that's easy since it's over-the-road shipping and they'll be with the rest of my stuff; similar to how they'll ship my large screen TV.

Oh, and one more thing, would appreciate opinions here:

I've been using them as home theater main speakers, which I can then use for music when I switch the source. I understand that HT isn't really the optimal use for these, but then again I don't really sit in my living room listening to music too often; only when I host people and want some background music, etc, and even then I don't really crank them. So for me, HT is really the only practical use, with occassional music listening.

Is that really a sub-optimal use? I've heard that from some other folks, but I can't really use them for anything else at this point.

    Any thoughts/opinions appreciated. Thanks.

Oh, and for my HT I have them hooked up to a Yamaha HT5860 receiver/amp. The receiver gets its audio feed from the HDTV (digital HD cable DVR) and DVD via optical digital audio cables. When I play CD's I play them on the DVD player.

What the heck man? I WAS trying to help. He had trouble in the past, I briefly explained why this may have happened and offered nothing but helpful advice. I was inquiring about how he hooked it up because I saw that he was running it with less than optimal amplification as seen in the photos, offered to start dialog to assist him with any advice he needed to make them sound the best and didn't try to police squat or even "blow a whistle".

As for the last statement and respecting other folks objectives? I don't even know why you would make such a statement......or from what statement I made that would lead you to make such a statement. How about respecting me actually having an opinion and offering input as I would like to put it? Upon re-reading my first post, I don't see anything that's not helpful with anything I said.

kl3640, good luck with the sale.

    Hi Folks,

First, I'm located in Palm Beach County, FL (Boca Raton area).

Second, I will be driving up and down the east cost several times this year, with a truck, so I could deliver them to either parts of GA, SC, NC, VA, or WV. I might also be going to OK, KS and WI (and briefly the states in-between those from FL as I make the drive). So, if they do sell, then I could possibly make delivery arrangements based on the buyer's location.

Third, I don't know how much I want for them. The last time I posted here two years ago+ someone mentioned $1,500-$1,800. Someone PM'd me something in that appx range. That was some time ago, so I don't know if they would have appreciated or depreciated in that time - they've not gotten too much use since then because my wife doesn't like surround sound so we often didn't use it while watching the HT.

Anyway, my back is against a wall here because I'm moving in 4 days and I still don't have enough posts to list these for sale in the flea market, and with all the packing, etc, I don't have time for 5 more posts. I could just put up BS posts but I don't want to abuse the forum's rules.

So if I can't list them in the next day or so in order to give me time to make a deal with someone and make shipping arrangements then I'll take them to FL and decide what to do with them from there.

Like I stated previously, I'm trying to give the enthusiasts here first crack at these.

Thanks for all the advice and help so far.

BTW, did anyone see my other post about shipping - any ideas on how it would be done? I imagine that they would have to be taken to a freight-shipper and that special packaging arrangements would have to be made, but I don't know of such a business.
