Just Curious. SVS MTS-01 speaker family vs Polk

Just wondering what people thought of the SVS MTS-01 speaker line. I'm not sure if you'd compare these to RTI or LSI Polks. (I currently have RTI's) Anyway I've heard good things about their subs but was wondering if anyone has heard their speakers.

I know what SVS thinks they've acheived, which is something special. I haven't heard them, but a Secrets review of the towers was extremely positive. An AVSer bought the set, did a GTG was some Dyns and Ascend Sierras and returned them...wasn't his cup of tea. I think they are so neutral, that unless you are really looking for something like them, you might not know what you have. All that said, I know that they are aimed to compete above the LSi line though priced similarly.

That's all I know...I think the only way to find out is to order and utilize the 45 day return policy if they aren't what you're looking for.

Well John E Johnson thinks so...

These guys were less than thrilled...

JEJ answered some comments by the owner of the speakers at the GTG in the review epilogue.

As I tried to convey, they may or may not be for everybody.

Got anything positive to contribute furball?

    That'll be the day.

Sabotg, I haven't heard that line yet but I am curious as to whether or not you have heard the LSi lineup, especially in a home environment.

Well, I just said SVS = the next best thing to sliced bread, what other kind of euphoric praise do you want me to pile on SVS?

And you just said those SVS's trump the Polk LSi's. That's a pretty bold statement. But I guess if SVS can make the best sub on the planet, we shouldn't cast doubt on SVS's ability to make the best speakers on the planet.

Anyone heard those new SVS's and the Polk LSi's side by side?

The SBS-01 that I heard at CES two years ago was cool albeit the demo was more about the subwoofer than anything else. The idea looked solid and the soft dome tweeter is hard to screw up. The prototypes they had for the MTS series sounded terrible but admittedly, by Ron, were a work in progress. They are far from sounding better than an LSi but it's a nice loudspeaker in its own right.

No I haven't had a chance to hear the LSI line. I'd love to someday. I have the power to run them :D It seems to me that the SVS MTS line is priced close to the current RTI line. I'd love to demo some LSI's at home. (Don't think I could talk the wife into it) I was just curious if anyone on the forum had the SVS and how would they describe them musically.

First, I don't care if the company was Bose, if I felt they made a worthwhile product and knew something about it I'd contribute what I know.

Second, your attitude has not granted you much grace on this forum (or probably any others). It's normally contentious, based on some bit of wisdom you've picked up somewhere and generally garners you nothing but negative attention. Try contributing positive information about something you know about or nothing at all. That will eventually gain you respect and praise.

Third, I presented 2 opposing viewpoints about the MTS product line, a warning that it might or might not exceed expectations and a fact...these speakers were aimed above the LSis. I didn't comment on if they achieved that goal. I don't know and I didn't say.

I don't, as a habit, make claims that I can't backup. No claims were made or even opinions.

Why do you suppose those SVS's are aimed above the Polk LSi's?

If you haven't heard those SVS's and the Polk LSi's, how can you make the claim that those SVS's are "above" the Polk LSi's? You could have just as easily said that those SVS's are "above" B&W 805's.

I don't know if you are close to a dealer that sells Polk gear, but if you are most of them offer a return policy if they do not work out. That way, you can save some dough on shipping and have an "in home" experience. The LSi lineup is a respected lineup and IMO a definite upgrade to the RTi's. I have thr RTi-10's in the wife's rig downstairs and have demo'd the LSi's in real world situations with pleasing results. Turned a couple of heads actually and gained interest in what they had to offer.

Seeing as you have the power available already, might I recommend you give them a whirl and see if the other half approves. If she doesn't, you can always take advantage of the return policy.

HT only or if you like brighter speakers, RTi. Warm sounding and 2ch listening, LSi. This is IMO of course. If you can swing it, go for the LSi's.

GD Furball, quit hi-jacking threads. This is getting annoying. Sabotg asked a question and deserves an answer. Please allow him that respect.

This is what I'm talking about. Obvious trolling and hijacking based upon your previous BS. Do the author of this thread a favor and continue this discussion on another thread.

If you would like, I will start it for you and you can have at it.

No I didn't know there was an SVS forum to ask. I value the opinions of the polkies. There are abviously alot of polkies using other speakers so I just wanted to know what everyone thought. Thanks for the suggestion about the SVS forum though! I'll give them a shout and see what they say.

I think its great that SVS is diversifying their manufacturing and they have shown nothing but kindness to us at the shows. Good for them.

It doesn't appear that there's an actual SVS forum per se. They just point you to a bunch of separate forums some of which I browse from time to time. I tried techtalk but came up with a dead link. Plus going to another forum makes me feel dirty :p I like to stay loyal :D

Does SVS have stores/retailers to where you can get your ear on? If there are some local to Charlotte, NC I could give them a test drive and report back.........??.............

I'm pretty sure you can demo at the Ohio HQ but that may have changed. Other than that it would be handshake style as they are an internet based company for the most part.

The only way to demo the SVS's are to order them online, listen to them, if you don't like them, you return them within the return period. The only catch, if you return them, you have eat the shipping charges, both ways.

I appreciate the offer Treitz3. Feedback from anyone that's heard them would be cool. I've looked locally but the high end stores here only offer the premium stuff. Sonus Faber, REL, Martin Logan, B&W etc... Ultimately it would probably be wiser to wait until the LSI line drops to this price range then try to audition/snatch those up.

SVS maintains threads on both HTS forums, but I don't see them participating too much anymore. Your best bet is to ping Ed Mullen, sales@svsound.com with your questions.

I didn't say the MTS were above anything. That's your slanted interpretation. I said they were aimed above the LSis. They were aimed at speakers at higher pricepoints. Whether they have achieved this is a subjective opinion and I certainly can't give one. Read what I wrote, not what you think I said.

Has anyone heard of the SVS bookshelves? I think they are from the same line as the MTS floorstander.
