Hello all

I am new to the forum and a new 'vintage' owner. I recently purchased a CS350 and I am very impressed. This is my first Polk speaker of any kind and I like it, kinda want some more. I have been looking at a set of Monitor 10B's on my local craigslist. I am including the link and was wondering what these should be worth? I think they have peerless tweeters. Thanks for any help.

    Those tweeters are SL1000's.

EDIT: That price is pretty high.

If you can talk him down $75 that would be an ok deal with the stands. Those are SL1000 tweeters, if you do much critical listening at moderate to high levels you'll want to upgrade to Polk's new replacement: RD0-194. They cost $48 apiece for Club Polk members with free 2 day shipping.

The SL1000 and SL2000 tweets have a peak at 13-15 KHz (depending on who you ask) that gets really annoying, especially on poorly recorded vocals.

I bought these and am thrilled with them. They are in absolute NEW condition without a scratch or flaw. Since I've never heard the Peerless, I have nothing to compare with and these just simply sound amazing. I'm now on the hunt for a vintage, more powerful amp/receiver. My 5jr's have the same SL1000 tweeter.

Is the SL2000 brighter than the SL1000. I thought that it was the SL2000 that had the real brightness that some people weren't particularly fond of.

They are both too bright. I have had both the SL1000 and SL2000. I actually prefered the SL1000. Although the replacement RDO is a huge improvement over both IMHO.

The peerless is in a class of it's own. I always liked it and never had a complaint about them. It is a shame polk stopped using them. They sort of split the difference between silk and mylar.

    Thank you.

Is the RDO an easy change out for a novice? Meaning a simple 1)unscrew from cabinet, 2)detach wires, 3)attach wires to RDO, 4)screw in or is there a change to the crossover, etc.? Thanks.

You may have to trim the cabinet.

That's not bad at all. I thought I saw in another thread a price of around $60-85. Does that sound right?

The price is high but you want to avoid shipping whenever possible. If in great shape and you really want them you could do worse.

I got alittle lost as to who bought these at first but I guess IDSkinner got them and not bsujeep.
One thing you might do is use one or two extra gaskets when mounting the tweeters. The gasket seals the tweeter to the cabinet making it air-tight and by using the extra gaskets it will fill the gap the larger RDO will have. The RDO will be flush with the face of the speaker cabinet instead of recessed into the cabinet. I have not done this but should work and if you ask nicely maybe the folks at Polk can hook you up. Maybe others here will add thier thoughts.
