Hi Everyone,
first post with a very newb-like question. I've purchased at set of RTiA7's and am in the process of looking for a simple and inexpensive receiver/CD set up. I'm considering the HK 3485 and the Marantz CD5001. Alternatively, I'm curious as to whether an NAD L54 DVD Receiver would fit the bill adequately. The NAD boasts less power than the HK (50 wpc vs. 120 wpc). Would this be enough for the RTiA7's ??? Can a separate AMP be added to the NAD later?
Many thanks

The only pre-out on the L54 is for a sub, meaning the answer to your question about adding an amp later to this piece would be no. Don't let the numbers on any NAD product fool you, my little 50WPC C320BEE can own amps over twice their "rated" power....After a quick price search to estimate your budget, I would also consider these options:

You can find them cheaper, just an example
with this:

About the same price, and IMO you would be happier with the end result. The C320BEE also has pre-outs, so if you get an itch, you can add an amp later. I would also look up the NAD integrated line, they offer a lot of bang for the buck used....I've got a 320 and a C372, and most likely will die with them somewhere in my house... -
thanks Bill,
I'm off to check out the NAD L54 tonight. I'll see what the sales guy says. Its on sale for $499, so it might be too good to pass up if the specs are right. -
Looking at the specs of the A7, I would make sure you can add an amp later....Those can handle a good amount of power, and I think you may have the upgrade bug hit sooner than you think.....The advantage of buying separates in your case would be not having to replace both components again if you find that 50WPC isn't going to cut it for the A7s.
