Back when I had my Dodd tube pre I really liked the NOS Siemens 6DJ8's for detail. I don't know jack about EL34's or the 12AT7's though.
I can tell you that I really like my new Electro Harmonix KT88's though. Not sure how their EL34's are. As for my 12AX7, I always go back to my old Amperex tube. Most of the print is gone, but it is a Holland tube and has orange print...maybe an orange globe, I don't know but it's staying put from now on.

Haha. I feel the same way about my Amperex 6dj8's. I think I have had them the longest time and there not going anywhere. There oranng labels but not the globes. They have some kind of design on them I can't make out. There oh so smooooth.:D

As fir the EH EL34's I have heard nothing but bad things. I don't think people can give them away. You can find new matched quads on ebay for $40.00

So I don't know:confused: I guess just more trial and error as always untill I find what I like.:D

How would it work with my current Jolida? Would I run the TT to the JD-9a and from the JD-9 to the aux input on the Jolida 302?

I thought because I was using a Intergrated amp with no phono stage I was dead in the water.:o Am I wrong?

Please explain more about this JD-9 if you can.

Yes, It takes a phono input and outputs it to a line level out so you can just add it to your AUX input on your 302. It supports all kinds of cartridges, impedences, etc. Any more questions PM me, I'm not gonna clutter your thread.

I have a pair of NOS GE triple mica 6201 USA 12AT7WA/M. It also has printed on it SC-75960/?8. I have heard them called airplane wing because the plate is bent like an airfoil in shape. The plates are small-11mm. It is the brightest set of tubes I have heard in my setup. PM me your address if you want them. With your small room the these tubes could lessen the bass and increase the top end. Try the Cardas (Golden Ratio) speaker position if you have the room. But I think the input tubes make a greater impact on the sound of the amp. Yesterday I replaced the wire inside the amp from the input jacks to the circuit board with the VH Audio Pulsar shielded copper wire and man it sounds much better than the silver plated copper wire I was using. Just thought you might want to know since you are into the diy stuff also. Great amps.

    Glad you asked.

    I just took some today.

It's not much different but it made MAJOR changes in the sound. I alwas thought the speakers needed to be closer to the wall.

It might be kind of hard to tell but the speakers are a little more than 30 inch's from the back wall and about 11-12 inch's from the side wall.

I wish the room was wider. I think if I could get them farther from the side walls that might help also.

The closet probably has great bass boost and could make a good spot for your last tunes.

    Consider it, ;)

    p.s. it's looking good.

    LOL!

You are right though. There is a TON of bass in there.
