Using spikes with a subwoofer

I have my sub sitting directly on carpet right now (ie no speaker spikes or anything. The cabinet is on the carpet). It's a low quality sub and it sounds very muddy.

My question is, would putting it on spikes help a lot? If so how would I go about it, there is no threading underneath the sub so do I have to use something else (ie strong two sided tape or drill an anchor into the cabinet or something) or maybe there are special spikes out there for this type of thing?

Also, I'd like to understand how this is supposed to help. Do the spikes reduce vibrations or something?

Thanks in advance once again.

It couldn't hurt. I spiked mine for better coupling to the floor and feel that the bass has improved. What I really need is a better sub.

well, what kind of sub do you have??? your sub must be muddy free if you think so, then
you have to thread the sub box for the spikes...spikes have threads like these...

Is the sub a down firing sub or front firing sub? Subs move and personally I am not a fan of spike on the sub. Put down a large piece of tile or slate and use rubber feet.

    Spikes work great for carpet.

Parts express has a decent selection.

Put the sub up on a piece of concrete patio block, I use the 16" or 18" square ones. Getting it up in the air, with a solid surface underneath, will help tighten up the bass.

There is no threading on the bottom of the sub so does that mean I have to make my own (use an anchor or something)?

    Front firing.

It's sitting on the carpet now, so if I put a piece of heavy MDF or glass or something underneath it would that would work?
