What is gained by changing the inductor to .5 ohm when upgrading 2B's to the
4.1TL ? I read with interest how pleased nspindel is with the mod that I
gotta see [hear] for myself. Thanks.

Actually, a 5.8uF capacitor is added in parallel with the 2.7 ohm resistor in order to modify the x-over for the addition of the SL3000/RDO-198. I just completed the upgrade on my CRS+ (or should I say SRS 4.1TL ) with all new components as well and am now "burning them in". I am excited to hear what the difference is when they are done. (I have another 85 hours...) From what I've heard so far it will be worth it, but that was just a preliminary test.
-
Mine are modified to the TL spec. I did not replace the inductor though. I was deemed not necessary. YMMV. A modification well worth the $ and relatively little time involved to make the modifications.
Just do it.:D You will never regret it once they burn in.
ScottI like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D -
I knew they would make a large difference, but I thought that if worse comes to worse, I am preserving a classic pair of speakers by redoing the x-overs. Win-win either way.
-
I need to get off my **** and get mine done...

Where did you get that idea from?Political Correctness'.........defined

Did you buy these? Nice pair. -
Yep... I'm tired of waiting for a pair of 1.2 tls or SRS 2s to come up for sale within reach of me. So these will do untill then.
-
Hope I didn't bid against you on these.

Nope, I was lucky enough to pick some up locally about a year or so ago. I don't see a need to ever get rid of them. -

Isn't that the truth.... I got my CRS+ about 2 years ago after waiting for several years for some 1C's to come up near by. Good thing I didn't hold my breath....SDA SRS 2.3 -
I've bid on three sets of 1.2 tls in three different states all requireing a two day round trip to get them and was outbid each time. On one pair I bid $3000.00 and still lost.
-
Hope he's as happy with them as I would have been. I told a friend of mine not long after that, that If I bid a hundred thousand dollars on a box of cookies. Someone else would get them for a hundred thousand and ten.
-
You will be real happy with the CRS+. They are great speakers that obviously aren't the big boys, but still hold their own against them and all other Polk speakers for that matter. Plus, size wise it's sooo much easier to work with.
-
I think I'll miss the deep bass I get with my SDA1s, But I'll be happier with the sound over all. Also, I'm anxious find out if the extra space between the stereo and the deminsional drivers improoves the soundstage. My original SDA1s can have a fairly wide soundstage but the sound is usually around the speakers and between the speakers.

Neskahi,
I'll post back on this thread to try and keep things straight. I see what you are talking about now.I also replaced the main inductor. On my meter the stock inductor measures 3.2 ohms. Parts Express sells a 15mH iron core inductor at .5 ohms.
It appears he wanted to replace the one inductor with one of better quality, but could not find one of the exact value (16mH), so he used what they had avialable. It also has less resistance. Off the top of my head, I don't know how that would end up sounding. For twenty some dollars, you can find out too.Political Correctness'.........defined
