DVD / Receiver Hook-up

So I have what may be an incredibly basic & dumb question. But I'm gonna ask anyway. So I purchased onkyo sr605 and was attempting to hook it up yesterday... and was having problem with the audio coming out of the speakers (rm6750) . But my question is, the dvd player has the coaxial cable going to the receiver as well as the hdmi going to the receiver. So from the receiver to the tv all i need is the HDMI only right? Do i need an optical cable or coaxial goin from the receiver to the tv also?

eventually i'll figure it out.. but i was gonna go buy cables in a bit and wasnt sure

    Welcome to CP

You need HDMI going to TV only.

As far as DVD player and reciever is concerned, you can transmit audio using either HDMI oe Coaxical. Just make sure you have same settings on both sides, i-e if DVD is sending audio via HDMI then receiver should be configured to receiver it via HDMI, In this case you don't need coaxial cable.

Also, TV's don't have optical or coax digital inputs usually. If they have the connections, that is for the 5.1 digital output because of the built in ATSC digital tuner.
