Quick Rti10 question from a new member

Would Rti10s sound presentable with my Onkyo 703 (100wpc), or would they be grossly underpowered and sound like crap until I can afford an amp. If that's the case...might have to settle for some 8s. I don't know if it matters, but the unit would be driving a cs400i and and a pair of rt600s...atleast until I get around to upgrading them:D.

You know the scenario....I've got the green light on some speakers, but I'd pushing it to throw in an amp right now.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Get them, I know mine is underpowered with my lesser onkyo, but I swear to you they shake my house.

I wonder if people want to be deaf sometimes? These are great speakers that play music well, get them, you have the pre-outs, so down the road you can get an amp. Don't delay or you will not find them.

    Get the 10's.

They are an amazing speaker set, even underpowered.

Yes. I've been using mine biamped with a sr605. Bought them 2 weeks ago and have no regrets! Plus, you can always add an amp down the line if you get some extra cash.

Still frustrated in trying to decide what to do for my system. What would be the preference... RTi10's without a sub or RTi6's with a sub? This would be 90% for music, 10%HT.

Here's another wrinkle.. would LSi9's without a sub be better for music than RTi10's without one? I don't really need a lot of bass for music. I currently have an R50's and RTi6's mixed for 2ch music and it's pretty adequate bass. BTW, I know the LSi9's are 4 Ohm and harder to drive. My stereo receiver can drive 4 Ohm speakers and I would get a amp later on.

This is such a frustrating hobby. I am constantly trying to second guess myself. Thanks for the input.

    Welcome to the club anton.

I don't think you will be disappointed with the 10's and your AVR. They will sound great and if/when you add an amp later they will sound even better. The 8's are also a good option if you have a sub as they are easier to drive with what you have now.

Glad you all like your 10s, but it looks like I'm gonna have to settle for 8s.

I was told yesterday that I was getting upgraded to 10s and expedited shipping at no cost, because the 8s I bought were out of stock. I just spoke with them and they told me the found another set of 8s and they'll be on my doorstep tomorrow.

If they weren't already shipped I'd ask for a refund. 10s can still be had for $500 shipped on amazon right now. Says 2-5weeks for delivery though.

Thanks for the input and the nice welcome. I'll keep the 10s in mind as I upgrade things.

Hope the 8s are good....I was dumb enough to buy without even listening to them.

I own RTi10s and RTi6's and I've got a bit of experience with RTi8's as well. I've run the RTi10s with a 100wpc onkyo receiver and I honestly think the money over the RTi6's or 8s is totally wasted. Basically you have to crank up the bass on the receiver to even use the woofers on the RTi10s. Kchill I'm not sure how these speakers could "shake your house." I've run mine on an Onkyo 805 in my 1200 Sq Ft apt and I wasn't that impressed. I still had to crank the bass tone control up to get thumping. And I'm not some bass-crazy guy (too much gives me a headache).

To be honest if you guys are using these speakers for home theater then i'd invest the difference between the 10's and 6/8's in the sub. You'll thank me. If you care tremendously about music, this may not be the best speaker line to buy in the first place.

I have the 10s and I like them very much. They're worth the money...but at the same time there are better ways to use the money (sub, sub sub!). Just my honest opinion as an RTi10 owner who has run his pair on:
    An Onkyo 805
    An Onkyo 605
    A Sony STR-DG1000
    An HK 245
An onkyo M282 (alone and in bi-amp'd config with all of the above)
    An Anthem MCA30.

But what do I know. :)

nm4710, its a steal for the closeout price and those of us who is just getting into home theater without spending 10k or more. I will stand by the bass as not being boomy but good in a small room, after I finish my basement I will take another look into that statement but we all agree they need a amp to push more than just our onkyo's. For what I spent I am impressed and for the new pokies who just listened to some monitors and such at a store these 8's, 10's and 12's can't be ignored. Don't know how they can be worth the money but better ways to spend the money?

FWIW, I have the 8's and a decent sub. The system is fantastic, mind you, I have recently spent lots of $$ replacing all my cables and I do have 3 200w monoblocks on my mains. You will not regret the 8s with a sub over the 10s with no sub.

I also think you will be very happy with the RTi-8 and a sub. Don't worry and report back with your thoughts when you have it setup.

As for RTi-10s and bass. I don't know about other people's exerience but with a B&K pushing my RTi-10s the bass is impressive to me, YMMV. I run all my AVR tone controls flat. I would add that the sub I have is no slouch and I think I know good bass. I like to turn my sub off for music and am not disappointed even when cranking the Beastie Boys. I suggest to the OP that if you ever decide to add an amp in the future make sure it is high current.

I bought the 10s for the price of the 8s. I know I underpower them but I really love how they sound... even underpowered.
