Polk speakers for new system
Hi, I'm new here and I'm putting together a new theater system that is presently in an apartment but will be going into a home in about a year. I'm thinking about buying 1. ONkyo TX SR805 2. Blu-Ray Panasonic DB30K and I have a Sony plasma TV on the wall.
On a budget (? $500 - $1,000), what speakers should I look at for this system?
Also, how difficult is it to hook this equipment up to each other? Do I need to bring in someone who knows how to do this?
Thank you.
Bruce

Is this your budget after the onkyo 805 and Blu-ray? Or is this for everything after the TV?
If you have that Budget for speakers then I would suggest the RTI line, if not I have a great used polk set for you, just PM me.Retired Onkyo 520 (returned broken HK 247)

Agreed go Rti line, try the Rti10s, CSi5, FXi3s, with SVS Sub. very simple to hook up. We can pretty much tell you how to connect everything in this thread, its that simple.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

The 10's are around $550-$600 on Ebay. Also, the 10's should have a separate amp to drive them properly. A used CSi5 is still in the $275 range. Then FXi3's are around $175. So this is way more than this person's budget.
The RTi line is great for HT but you may need to stick to the smaller speakers in this series (RTi4's and RTi6's). Two RTi6's are around $170-$200 used. Get FXi3's for surrounds (maybe a second pair for rear surrounds if budget allows) Then get a CSi3 for $140 shipped (maybe a CSi5 which is better) and a good sub. Should sound quite nice, but it depends on the room size. -
In part due to advice from others (thanks Kchill) I bought Rti10's on Amazon for $250/each (no tax and free shipping). I'm really liking them. You might have to be patient, though. I saw the free shipping deal at 1AM and it was gone the next day. They seem to have the deal going on now:

Not bad, glad I got mine for 199.00 each....I still say to go on Tweeter.com and see if there is one near you and check out the clerance section...Down here in Atlanta they still have a choice of blk and chr for 199 for rti8's...even got rti12's for 368.00
But with a 1000.00 budget and you like polk audio, then RTI is the way to go.
How is those Polks HTguy?
Hey Bruce go to tweeter.com and look in the clerance section if they are near you. This way you don't have to pay shipping, it may be a little drive but that 805 will power those 10's so nice that it will all be worth it to you.Retired Onkyo 520 (returned broken HK 247)

I am in the market for some reasonably priced RTi10's. The last time I saw them on Amazon at this price is because they were from J&R. Shipping and tax killed the deal for me. Your link has them for $479 each. I don't see $250 each. Can you point me to it since I would be interested.
Tweeter doesn't have any left in clearance. I think the RTi8's are a little too expensive considering that they are going to be floor models (possibly all scratched up). I have been monitoring this forum and Ebay for a possible deal. RTi12's are out of the question in Bruce's budget, but agree that the RTi line is the best.
Finally, like many people, I am always trying to keep my options open looking for the best sound experience. Instead of the RTi10's, I may consider the A7's or maybe even LSI9's. It's very difficult to satisfy this addictive hobby. -
When you click on the link that I provided look for "more buying choices" on the right. Click the button UNDER "more buying choices" which says says "add to cart." That should do it. For some reason Amazon doesn't post the lowest price on the product page.
Kchill, I have the Rti10's biamped and it does sound pretty good. Decided I would stick with the 605 for a while until I have the inclination to use a really serious receiver/amp.MAIN: Polk Lsi9s; Polk PSW505; Lsic (in box); Onkyo SR-875; Parasound 2250; Cambridge Audio 740C; LG BD370

Thank you very much for your suggestions. I found the Rti10's at Amazon but I cannot find the Csi5 anywhere and the reviews on the Csi3 for the 10's are not really adequate. Any suggestions of where to find the Csi5?
Bruce -
Can't help with the Csi5. I owned a CS2 and 4 r50's before buying the Rti10's, so when I upgraded my fronts from r50's to 10's I had a legacy center. All I can say is I don't really feel any need to upgrade the center, especially since I mostly listen to music. If your budget is tight or you can't find the Csi5, you might consider either a CS2 or reconsider the Csi3. I definitely would not move down with the fronts just because you can't find a Csi5 at a reasonable price. Just my two cents...MAIN: Polk Lsi9s; Polk PSW505; Lsic (in box); Onkyo SR-875; Parasound 2250; Cambridge Audio 740C; LG BD370

I have the csi3 and its fine...all I can say is get it. We all know the high end centers and they are different from the low. Take the CSM (to match thr R series) The CSM is a very, bad and i mean bad center. The CS1 is a step up...in fact it cost more than the csi3. Its ok but nothing to brag about. Then you have the csi3. It passes most ears on this board and a few other, people get it, like it, keep it and never look for anything else, why because it a good center. The Cs2 to me after a side by side test is about the same, a little bigger but to me its for the monitor series. I stuck with the speaker for the RTI series. I'm happy with it, I hear clear and not muddy voices and no one on here will say any different.
Last is the price, 129.00 right now. Come on if you are going with the 10's and drop 500 bucks for them then just give them the 129.00 and smile.Retired Onkyo 520 (returned broken HK 247)

Ok, but if you had not bought anything just yet, would you comment on the 'surround bar' and if it was used, would it need additional speakers / receiver to run it, and most importantly, would you do it (buy the sound bar)?
