Coolest feature I've seen in a LONG time wtih TV's........

I was at Best Buy tonight picking up my August Rush DVD and was perusing the Magnolia section of some sets and I saw this little corner sticker on one of the Samsung (I think it was a Plasma) sets that said "Wireless." This TV was up on the wall with another one below it on a stand.

I put my face up against the wall to see what exactly they could be talking about and I'll be damned if there was not one video/audio cable connected to the thing whatsoever. (there was a power cable.......understandable)

I asked the kid there what that was about and he pointed me to the box in the stand below it and he said "you hook up all your cables to that box, and it transmits the video signal to the set." HOW **** COOL IS THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!

Compared to all of the other sets around it, it had a slight delay, but it wasn't like it was all whacked out.......it played at all the same speeds as the others, but just maintained that slight delay. If there was no other set around it, I wouldn't have ever been able to tell there was something different going on.

I think that has to be one of THE best advancements as far as TV's go nowadays.......and should become a standard soon....

    That is awesome! Was the picture quality as good as a wired set? I don't see how it could be.

    If they designed this from the ground up, I would hope they'd make it a completely lossless and even a redundant / error-checking system.


    My concern is, for those of us (everyone on this board, I would hope) who don't use the TV speakers, the "slight delay" would wreak havoc with trying to sync audio.

    Playing Guitar Hero would be a nightmare. :)

    I think it looked every bit as good, but I was honestly more focused on other parts of the store...

    If they have it worked out, then I think it would be a badass setup to have and keep the mess to a minimum (or at least, out of sight)

    Neat and a WoW factor but..... I ask why if we still need a power cable why wireless. Small interconnect cable needed, but all in all why? I ask why add something else in the circuit train to my television?

    I dont' think they've found away to beam power to an object.......not that i'm aware of....

    If I'm putting something up on the wall, I'm all for any technology that minimizes the amount of cords that have to be run to a set. It'll save you money in that you can buy shorter audio, component, hdmi etc cables if you just put that box on your rack.........that's a huge benefit in and of itself........

    Of course it'll depend on it's latency for things like Guitar Hero and that type of stuff, but I didn't get into a long discussion about it..........

    I don't really see the point. My set only has two cords going to it, power, and HDMI.

    Good point, I didn't think of the power cord. You could easily hide an HDMI cable (really the only thing you should need) behind a power cable, so the difference is negligible.

    Same here 1 power, 1 HDMI. If I need to hide the power cord what's the problem with hiding the HDMI cable?

    Sadly, i haven't purchased a digital TV as of yet, so I haven't recognized the benefits of using a single HDMI cable..........

    I just thought it was a great idea for keeping calbes to an absolute minimum (gaming consoles, etc).......

    That actually is a god send for tough installs as flat screens find new and exotic mounting places. A lot of other possibilities.
