Is anyone else a huge fan of the GT series? I can't wait until the prologue is available.

There’s some info HERE on the new additions for the US release.

If you haven't seen any yet there are some screenshots HERE.

I challenge everyone who gets it to race me.

My friend has been rocking away with his Logitech wheel and the Japanese version of prologue for quite a while now.

I must admit, it is a lot of fun! :D

looks good, I think I'll buy it when it comes out. A steering wheel seems like it would be great.

No, he has the older Logitech Driving Force Pro. No clutch or H-pattern shifter, but I've been very pleased with the experience it's provided.

I can't even imagine how much better it'd be with a real shifter!

after playing the demo for months, it became apparent only after a few hours that this game is WAY more complex in it's physics than previous entries.
the cars just move like they ought to, making playing it more enjoyable/more frustrating than ever. i doubt that i'll be getting the game at release, but it does look promising. i expect a couple of updates to eventually release after the initial drop though, and i can say it looks completely gorgeous!

I agree that it's a lot better then previous entries, but overall it suffers from the same fate of those. You can still get away with the little quirks that have turned me away from the GT series. Hopefully with the GT5 Full release something else will give, but judging from right now they desperately need to remove the simulator tag. Because they're nowhere near Turn10's level in terms of console games right now.

The clutch feature is bad ****, another thing I like. However it too suffers from the arcadey racing and feels more like PGR4 to me.

Same fate? You mean being the 2nd and 5th best selling games on the ps2 and selling arround 10 million copies each (according to wikipedia)? I think they'd be more then happy with that. I don't know what little quirks your talking about.

The GT games are as far from arcadey as it gets. I've never played a racing game with more realistic physics.

Don't get me wrong, the Gran Turismo series is a name oriented game that simply has selling power - bottom line. It was concieved in an era of videogames when there was nothing else like it on a console. Driving games were always two dimensional and added very little realism if ever (save the PC and it's simulators) and the variety of cars, tracks and semi tuning options were unmatched. Correction, they weren't even thought of. Polyphony came in at a time when it was perfect, there was nothing before it, barely anything after it's next two releases and it has and will continue to glide by on name alone. I'm sure it'll sell, it'll sell well and I'd never in a million years attempt to take that away from it. Sure sales mean the world, but 50 Cent's Bulletproof sold alot as well.

No offense, but if you feel the physics in any Gran Turismo are even close to realistic, save GT5, then you haven't been doing alot of driving or tracking. GT5:P also suffers from some very unrealistic moments, that games such as Forza 2 do not.

I'm not saying it's the worst of the bunch, but it's definitely not the best. I walked into GT:HD and GT5:P with open arms praying that PD would finally put together something that enthusiasts have been asking for over the years. Granted I understand as one they have had to cater to the majority market. That's fair, but what about the guys and gals that know their digs about the automotive industry ? We aren't buying a game labeled a "Driving Simulator" to have AI that bounces off of a wall at 150mph plus in the past and now suffered by small nuances of penalty which do no better. I happen to also know that at Laguna Seca in Turn 6, you're not banging that corner at 110MPH in a Ferrari, Viper, Porsche, save the Ariel Atom.

    wrote:

Have you ever played Grand Prix Legends, Toca 1 / 2, Supercar, LeMans, Forza 1 or 2 ? All of those are on a level of realism unmatched in some way or the other. Save Forza 1 and 2, the rest are down to the nitty gritty of realism. Forza 1 and 2 also suffer from nuances, but as a console game you can't expect everyone to own a wheel. So they have done their best within the realm of a console.

Gran Turismo has always been about the Car collector, Pretty cars, some manageable tuning options, and Pretty cars. From a developer such as Polyphony, who is absolutely bad ****, you should come to expect more. I do, but that's as a car lover, greasemonkey, etc etc. It's like they've been sitting in patience for years, not worried about upping the ante because they've had no need too. Then a developer called Turn 10 comes out of left field and one ups the grandpa.

Gramps needs to get it's act together IMO. Because there are some new kids on the block that save absolutely STUNNING vehicles, have an engine and a package that has thoroughly been slapping the GT series around for a bit of time.

GT5:P is by no means a bad game. It has definitely improved it's gameplay etc etc. Once again, the cars are absolutely DEAD gorgeous. But I've been feeling left wanting more since GT3. GT:HD and GT5:P in it's current state have added even more to that. I pray that GT5 is different, but it's very apparent the casuals and the arcade racing individuals are the driving point for the game.

djlogic, the little I have played Gran Turismo, it has left me the same feeling. I haven't played Forza series but GPL and Geoff Grammond's Grand Prix series, those I loved. Give me GT:HD with the same realism and I won't ask more. We'll see how GT:HD turns out, it's not out yet, or is the real release going to be GT5? I get confused with all the different versions...

Even if they aren't realistic, it's cheap fun, and for the more expensive fun we always have our track vehicles. A video game, no matter how good it is, isn't the same thing (until we get hydraulic pumps on every corner to give us the feel of ac- and deceleration, plus all the cornering forces :)).

I can't really pick apart GT5 too bad, because I'm not that avid of a video game racer. However, I can definitely agree with the few points you mentioned about it that aren't very realistic.

Also, I have played (have on my PC :D) GT Legends and GTR-2 (and BMW M3 Challenge - both use the same physics engine as GT Legends), and they are flat out AWESOME to use, even with a keyboard. I'd LOVE to connect a wheel to my computer to really be immersed in the experience!

Yeah, the old DFP still works really well with GT5P. I love it.

Agreed. The game definitely has fun moments, it's just I've went from "OMG GT5" to "Hmmmm". I'm sure it'll be great for those that are fans of the series and could give a damn about the realism that could and should be attained.

GT:HD was a taste so to speak. It was essentially GT4 rebuilt and remodeled in High Definition. GT5 will be the final release.

Yeah, I still play those games from time to time. I have my G25 setup with the chair and 3 LCD's. Correction, -had-. I've still got my wheel but have to wait until my fiance' and I decide on layouts in our home. One of my complaints with Forza was also the lack of clutch, however F3 looks to be answering some of the racers wants and needs.

I total disagree with that. I've played the latest toca game and all to forza games and I still love the feel of GT4 better. Besides the lack of damage in GT4 I thought it was a lot more realistic, but it looks like no one agrees with that.

Well, I hope you all still buy the prologue even if you think its arcadey. It's going to be an awesome game! I just wonder how there doing to handle people ramming each other in online multiplayer... with the lack of car damage it might be hard. I never played forza or toca online, how did they do it?

If you intentially rammed someone or even a highspeed ram your car is damaged, you have to pit, or sometimes it just refuses to move. You pull over to the side of the road, chalk it up, and wait for the next in the series.

Have you ever done any real track racing, driving, fast down a mountain road etc etc ?

In the JPN version, you just get a speed limit penalty for a set number of seconds depending on the severity of the hit. However, this feature is extremely buggy. Sometimes the game will penalize the person who GOT hit, etc. It's extremely annoying. I'm hearing that it's more refined in the US/UK releases, so lets hope so.

If the car get real damage, it will hopefully give people a new approach to driving games. Instead of going balls out on the first corner on the first race/practice, they'll do it like in real racing. Few slow laps to get to know the track, then gradually increase speed until you have reached the point where you're on the edge of being too fast. I think the keyword here is HOPEFULLY. :D

Patience after all is key to success, despite it being a speed sport.
