So, what do you do when you want to upgrade your laptop but can't afford or want the best ones out there? I picked this mid line Dell. Seemed like a good price at $699 and seems to work very well. It was on sale last week (and will probably be cheaper next week...) so I picked one up.

I'm not very "in the know" about this stuff. Did I do ok, so so, or took a beating?

Looks decent, though I don't know why you'd go through BestBuy to buy a Dell when you can get them directly from Dell.
I have a low-end Dell (an Inspiron 1501 with similar specs, paid like 550 for it 9 months ago or so) and have been extremely happy with it for what I paid.If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -

I was there looking around and some sales guy said "hey, we have a great deal on a dell, only one left, do you want it" so I said yes. My research was non-existent on this purchase. I normally dont do that but I guess I was looking for something to play with.

looks like a good pick up for the price. Not familiar with the x-2's that much since I have a core 2 duo in my laptop. Looks like you got 200 off? Not bad. Much better than what 699 would get you otherwise I am sure.

Good deal IMO. I have the Turion64 X2 in this HP notebook, and it's cool and very quick. Battery time is pretty good. The newer Intel's are more efficient, but if you aren't looking for max battery time, the X2 is a great buy, and reliable. For some graphic files, it's quicker than the intel. It will do a true 64bit OS if you have the desire to play with that as well.

I just thought I would mention that after being on this laptop for a week straight (work and home) I find it to be AWESOME! A lot of the eye strain I was experiencing on the older Dell I had went away. This one is just so easy to look at. I'm actually glad the old one started malfunctioning at this point. I didn't realize the LCD could be this much better. I'm liking vista as well. The only negative thing I can say about it is the speakers leave a lot to be desired. They work and all but are not very loud or of any real quality.

Turn the screen up all the way, then back it off a notch or two. You'll get less eyestrain, and the bulbs and inverter will last a lot longer. Dell is putting out a good product, and there's nothing like a new uncluttered laptop. Get a cheap set of cans for the road if the speaks suck:)-Ignorance is strength -

To all people on this forum... if u plan to buy a laptop or a computer or even any electronic at all... check costco first. i got a $1900 laptop for 1149.. costco has its very own product models, usualy a tiny dif from a product say circuit city and bestbuy carry... but wayyyyy less. walmart and sams club are also good.2013 Toyota Prius

I agree. I normally look at sams club, don't have a membership at costco. New egg, tiger direct and some others always provide some interesting options too.Vinyl, the final frontier...
