Question about pre-outs

I have a denon 3801 and using a rotel rb-890 for the fronts. My question is does the denon still output power to the fronts when using an amp hooked to the front pre-outs.

It does have the power available at the speaker terminal, but without a resistive load(speaker) there is no currant passing through those channels amps. This is a good thing because it save the currant for the other channels, and reduces heat buildup in the receiver.

Ok, I did. It looked to me as if the OP wanted to know if when using the pre-outs, if the front speaker terminals would still power another speaker hooked up to them. I think the answer is Yes, and it looked to me as if your post #2 was saying that there's power to those posts but no current going through them unless a speaker is connected, at which point the AVR's amps would happily power them.

But maybe i'm just reading this all wrong. If that's the case, sorry to have interrupted.... back to the regularly scheduled programming.

Greg, IF youre talking about bi-amping your speakers, then yes, run the preouts > amp> lower binding posts, then speaker outs to upper binding posts.

I think we are on the same page in two different paragraphs;) If the OP's question is can you use both the amp, and the receiver's outs the answer is yes as you stated, but if no speaker is hooked up then there is no currant draw from said channels.

I think his question was geared more to the thinking of adding the wattage from the amp and the receiver together.I could be wrong though,thats how I read it anyway.
