Monitor 10 tweeters

Hey all,

There are a pair of Monitor 10's on the local Craigslist for $175 with original stands. I think it sounds like a great deal, but I wanted to get opinions on the SL-2500 tweeters, if that is indeed the tweeters pictured in the ad. They look more like a Peerless to me, but that may have been Polk's intention....

Peerless. First thought a little too expensive, but Peerless, and stands in real nice shape = good price. I'd offer less of coarse. Clunky old boxy speakers;):p:D

The picture is a SL1000 tweeter.

My bad. Saw slanted leads, and jumped to conclusions:o. Peerless is black. Silver plate, and clear dome = SL1000.

Ben...........................finally you see the light. Sl1000 the least desirable of all the Polk tweeters. IMO, priced too high. $100 tops if you are selling them on Club Polk. You'll probably get more on E-bay.

I am usually a little more thorough than that. I think he is thinking of purchasing them. The stands are worth $50 alone, but he would need to upgrade the tweeters eventually. That adds another $100 for the upgrade. Most do the upgrade anyways. Depending on his location availability may be low, and shipping old Polk's is a no no. Asking price is $175. If he could get them for $125 I think he would be doing good.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping they were Peerless tweets, then I would pull the trigger. I already have CRS's with the RDO's so ill probably pass.

He can't just upgrade the tweeters unless he goes Norm Abrams on the cabinets. The stands are very early options, and not worth much aside from nostalgia for a Polk fan. $50 sounds fair enough.

True. I should have mentioned that the tweets would need to notches cut for the terminals on either side. Not a hard task, but not a complete drop in either.
