I'm ready to order a bunch of HD DVD movies. What are the "must have" ones as far as video performance goes?

Well, Transformers...while not having anything more than a decent 5.1 track, is a very appealing movie

I just watched Beowulf last night. while not a great movie. the CGI was pretty killer.. after a while you forget you're watching a computer generated movie.. i wonder if this is where movie making is headed?

I think most of the Harry Potter movies are out on HD DVD, Bourne ones too..

Has LOTR come out on HD DVD or Blu yet?

The only problem with most of these movies is that a lot of them are available on BR with equal (or better) PQ and sound.

Some aren't on BR though, and those (like Serenity) are too amazing to pass by

ha! ryanjoachim, better PQ and sound? I doubt that.. both formats are equal. just that one is now DOA. but side by side. I doubt any consumer like us could tell a difference in PQ or SQ.

Maybe the player, but not the format.

PQ on the HD-DVD discs in general has been better but I never watch the same movies on both formats so I haven't done any side-by-side comparisons. The only reason to buy BD version is because...well, we all know why. But if the BD version is $30-40 and you can find HD-DVD for $10 (I don't know if you can), I'd still get the HD-DVD.

I didn't mean that BR is better than HD inherrently. I meant to say that if there are movies that are on BOTH BR and HD, then with the prices of HD still being pretty high, it doesn't make much sense to buy the HD version over the BR.

Unless you are not planning on going BR for a while.
