I heard a song today that I haven't heard in ages.... "It's a Long Way There". Evidently there is the original long version with the nice guitar solo and then a shorter one that was on the last Greatest Hits CD and maybe the first Greatest Hits, I'm not sure. So I'm looking for the long version. Anyone know?

Have to go home and listen to my "Greatest Hits" CD to make sure. Very underrated band in their heydays. "The Night Owls" is one of my favorites.

OK, so one of those little not-so-dark secrets about me... My wife and I are LRB roadies, following along with the current crew that is the evolution of the Little River Band. Only remaining member anything close to 'original' is Steve Housdon, with Wayne Nelson still playing with them in 2006, but not in 2007.

The long version of 'It's a Long Way There' was on LRB's debut (and self-titled) album, "Little River Band".

    Saw them:

1979 - Appalachian State University Homecoming (Boone, NC)
1994ish - Ribfest - Walnut Creek Amphitheater (Raleigh, NC)
2004 - House of Blues (Orlando, FL)
2005 - Legends Series (Burlington, NC)
2006 - Suffolk Peanut Festival (Suffolk, VA)
    2007 - Oktoberfest (Hickory, NC)

    Kinda scary, huh?

Thanks...that's what I figured but wanted to make sure. I saw lots of complaints out on Amazon about the decision to make that a 4 min version on the Greatest Hits CD.
    This is my favorite.

"This is a great example of what the music business has become, and the losers that make stupid decisions like cutting short the wonderful guitar solos in "It's a Long Way There". I will be pursuing getting my money back. What I want to know is WHO IS THE LOSER THAT MADE THAT CALL ??"

"I can't believe it. What was once one of the greatest extended medleys of all time (It's a Long Way There) is clipped out and the song is cut short. The intent must have been to sell FEWER COPIES! Who is the idiot that decided to do that?!?!?"

    LOL!

Also, evidently the remastered version of "Greatest Hits" doesn't even have all of the original songs but remakes by the current lineup!? A lot of pissed off people thought they were getting a remastered copy of the original.

And it was done without permission from the original members. Capital Records quickly pulled the "altered" CD from market, resulting in a very collectible CD.

Dragon, I have that song from their first (vinyl) album and I can burn that LP to a CD for you if you like (as soon as I get back from vacation, that is). Let me know...

    Regards,

    Dave

Diamantina Cocktail (it's late I'm not going to go pull the album to get the right spelling!) is one of my favorite albums. LRB's first few albums were very good.

They were playing the "Ham & Yam" Festival in Smithfield, NC (<30 mins from my house) last night, and I missed them. A bit of a full day yesterday with two truckloads of mulch fetched and spread in the AM, Raleigh Beer Festival 12-4, Coworker's 40th birthday party 4:00 - whenever. I was worn out by the time I hit the bed.

Good band, good music. Last month I bought "First under the wire" and "Sleeper Catcher" on vinyl.
