Advise for In-Walls for Dedicated HT
Hi Guys,
First time posting, however I have received a great deal of information from the site. I am currently in the process of building a house (85% complete) and I have allocated a room in the basement for a HT. The dimensions are about 21ft x 10ft. My issue is speaker selection for a 7.1 set-up. From reading the site, the TC series is the best option if LC is not affordable. The two options I am considering are:
Option 1:
TC265i for LCR
TC65i for Surrounds (total of 4)
Option 2:
TC65i for LR
TC265i for C
TC65i for surrounds (total of 4)
My question is: Do I really need the TC265 for the LR in option 1 since I will also have a subwoofer. I can save a bit of money if I can go with Option 2. Is there a big difference for the front stage if I go with the TC65i for L&R.
Any advise will be helpful. Also any advise on a good receiver will be helpful as well.
Thanks,
DK

Get the best L/R's you can for the front, even if you have a sub. They will provide a more solid sound overall.
What is your budget for the receiver?Tschüss

Thanks okiepolkie. So you feel it is a substantial difference between the TC65i and TC265i for the front stage. Any other opinions? Also for the receiver my budget is $500.00.

Is this strictly HT or will it be music also?2 channel - Willsenton R8 tube integrated, Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC, audio optimized NUC7i5, Windows 10 Pro/JRiver MC29/Fidelizer Plus 8.7 w/LPS and external SSD drive, PS Audio PerfectWave P3 regenerator, KEF R3 speakers, Rythmik F12SE subwoofer, Audioquest Diamond USB cable, Gabriel Gold IC's, Morrow Audio SP5 speaker cables. not meaning to jack this thread but
I'm wondering on this one
for me
Music too -
The L&R speakers, even in HT, are responsible for a lot of the soundtrack's music, so they are still very important. The larger L/R, and sometimes center help recreate the music more faithfully. You are also using a large room, and the larger fronts will help the subwoofer out as well.
As far as receivers go, I haven't kept up with all the variations from denon, yamaha, onkyo, etc.... I have used Cambridge Audio for most of my installations over the last couple of years. Others might have a better idea of what is available at this point.Tschüss

The new Yamaha's are really good. I've got the RX-V659 for my HT and really, it does a nice job for both HT and music and you can find it for well under $500. I know they've got the old rap on them about being bright and not great for music but I think they've addressed that.

As for those two specific speaker options I agree with okie...I'd go with option 1 or if you go for option 2 just the TC65i's all around. Actually, for an HT only system I'm pretty happy with the RC85i's all the way around.2 channel - Willsenton R8 tube integrated, Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC, audio optimized NUC7i5, Windows 10 Pro/JRiver MC29/Fidelizer Plus 8.7 w/LPS and external SSD drive, PS Audio PerfectWave P3 regenerator, KEF R3 speakers, Rythmik F12SE subwoofer, Audioquest Diamond USB cable, Gabriel Gold IC's, Morrow Audio SP5 speaker cables. Thanks Okipolkie and dragon1952. This will be a dedicated HT so very littly music. I appreciate the advise. I will probably purchase this weekend, however installation will be in 2-4 weeks.

If you don't mind Ebay you can get them a lot cheaper there than retail. That's where I got my RC85i's.

Just watch out as some are sold as pairs and others are per speaker. There's a pair of TC265i's though for only $419. The seller has a lot of dings on his feedback but also a bunch of satisfied customers.2 channel - Willsenton R8 tube integrated, Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC, audio optimized NUC7i5, Windows 10 Pro/JRiver MC29/Fidelizer Plus 8.7 w/LPS and external SSD drive, PS Audio PerfectWave P3 regenerator, KEF R3 speakers, Rythmik F12SE subwoofer, Audioquest Diamond USB cable, Gabriel Gold IC's, Morrow Audio SP5 speaker cables. Get Tc265's for LRC make up the price difference by just going with the Tc615's for the 4 surrounds. JRmusic has regular online sales that the 615's are $69-79 each. I am using all three models in my house and have 615's as surrounds in room little bigger then yours with Onkyo705.

Thanks Gary INC. I guess the consensus is the price difference for the TC265 for LCR are justified considering sound quality. I think your set-up sounds good. I just finished reading reviews of the Onkyo 705 and it received rave comments. Hope to pull the trigger and purchase this week.
