breakup at moderate volume on Mon 70's
Any with Monitor 70 (or 40's, 50's or 60's)please chime in.
I have currently:
Onyko 305 x-over at 100HZ
Monitor 70
CSM
small sony sub
When I am watching movies at a moderate volume I am having problems with the mains. A crackle on some brief loud parts, and full fledged breakup on stuff like some of the background music on LOTR or Tie Fighters whizzing by on Star Wars. (Wow, I just showed my nerdy colors.) They both sound good at low/normal volume so the speakers are not blown
The receiver is 65WPC (only using 3 of 5 channels right now).
What does the polk community think: Am I asking too much of the Monitor series or am I clipping the signal coming out of the amp, causing the distortion.
I plan on getting an onyko 705 in the early summer, as well as a CS2 and Monitor 40's for the surround. But if more power will not make my fronts sound better, I need to start piecing together a more capable system.
Thanks

my guess would be yeah.. those monitor 70's need more power than your receiver has to run them properly... if that continues.. you may damage the speakers. and that would be a shame.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

could be that you have already blown a tweeter. I had a faulty tweeter in one of my 70's right from factory. Got it replaced and put some good power to them and have been tickled with their performance.Onkyo TX NR 5008 modified by The Upgrade Company

Well, I said screw it and bought the new receiver(Tax time can be my justification). All better now.
Can't wait till I get the new center and surrounds. -
Good to hear your happy now. If you ever put a good two channel amp on those 70's you'll be even more happy!Onkyo TX NR 5008 modified by The Upgrade Company
