I was thinking about this last night and thought I would share. A lot of people really like B&W speakers because they use "trickle down" technology. So when you buy a pair of 602s, it has similar tweeter technology to a pair of 705s, and on and on. That's a good thing, and they get a lot of fans that way because they are offering a good product at a good price.
However, if you can buy a pair of Polk speakers and get the exact same tweeter in a pair of $350 Monitor 5 Jrs as in a pair of $3000 SRSs, that's a deal! Trickle down is great, and I know Polk uses it, but when you can get some of the exact same components, no matter where you buy in the speaker chain, you have a fantastic product and a great value. Just my .02...

When you have figured out a good crossover network for particular drivers, there is no sense in changing anything. Just go more or less.

Also allows to buy parts, in bigger bulk, for a better price.

It's a smart way to run a business, for the seller and the consumer.

This is lesson well learned in the automotive industry as well. No use making several different parts for the same application if you can make just one work in many applications. For some auto manufacturer's that was a hard lesson to learn. :)
"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul!

I noticed this also with my B&K amp. The same parts and case is used for multiple applications. B&K just added channels or removed channels, depending on that amp specs.
