    But seriously...

Every day, as I discover more and more music, what these speakers can do paired with this Odyssey gear and that Shanling... its magic. I no longer run subs, and their bass response is just surreal. Their imaging is brilliant.

    Highs, mids, smooth and fantastic.

I don't think I can change a thing. Its amazing.

    Woo Hoo!

I think the fact that you aren't using subs for 2 channel is as much an indicator of your personal growth as it is about the speaker's abilities.

    Im not replacing my subs...

I guess technically I am - I am replacing them with a Plasma TV stand mount (very small foot print and takes up virtually no floor space) and getting three amp stands once they sell... :)

    Does that count???

    Maybe...

Ill keep listening, looking for better. But it will take quite a speaker to dethrone this...

I dont know if it is all my speakers, I think there is some massive synergy within my system between the Odyssey, Shanling and Taylos...

Seriously, a Wadia CD player thrown in the mix didnt even bring better results. Im just saying..

BTW -- glad to see you're still enjoying the Taylos. Absolutely no reason to look any further (unless its higher up the Tyler Acoustics food chain).

A coworker of mine brought over a 3,500 dollar Wadia CD player for me to listen to...

I positively did not like that player, I wrote a lil bit about it a month or so ago. It just was boring.

I like this Shanling. Its my player. Fo sho.

I was actually thinking about the Super Towers agian the other day...

And I was thinking... ya know, it uses a different tweeter, more mids - and the more mids may be a bad thing...

I've heard these Taylos in a bigger room on far lesser gear and it even sounds better than it does in my room. I just don't have a reason to upgrade. They rock. Period.

Trey, if your system floats your boat that's all that matters. I'm happy for you.

I'll never forget the look on your face at PF when the left tweeter stopped working. You'd have thought someone just shot a loved one. Priceless!

I honestly cant get into SDAs...

Ive heard the SRS, the 1.2TL, the 2.3TL, the 1C, the CRS -- just no love for them...

Honestly, having heard the Wilson X1, the Grande Utopia, and the aforementioned speakers, with others from B&W, and Sonus Fabor and the assorted speakers elsewhere...

The Taylos literally take the cake of the best speaker Ive ever heard...

Its all personal preference. Listening to the SRS's beside my speakers at Ted - I wanted to chop my ears off. They were Wide, but featured no depth to the recording. Placement was awkward, they sounded flat with a lackluster top end. They sounded and felt under powered.

The Taylos in the same room, one you created a triangle seating position, actually behind the couch - for instance on the BB King recordings... they actually created the show for you in the room.

It is hard to explain, but the Taylos may not have a 50 foot wide stage, but in the right room, they threw out a 25 ft wide stage, with laser precision and texture...

The amount of detail they have is amazing. To each their own. But driver technology has come such a long way, I'll take resolution and precision over a wall of relaxed sound anyday. Just IMO>

This is what makes this such a great hobby. That quest to find that "right sound" that really touches your soul. But once you've found that dynamic synergy combination...you'll know it. And it sounds like you've found it.

What's great is that what touches your soul might be the exact opposite impression for someone else. You've got to go with what makes you happy!!

I would just like to add that, when set up properly and fed ample power(as Trey has),the 7u's do have an incredible soundstage and imaging. IMHO, however the Taylos ref monitors have a slightly better, deeper and wider presentation, but with out the bottom end that the 7u's have.Right now, I'm playing with a tube amp and vinyl with the 7u's,and it sounds pretty good to my old ears, just a few room enhancements and I think I'll be there,,I think.:)

But I still have a pair of 1C's, at least for now,,rock on guys.

That's generally the case, especially coming from the same speaker line. The monitors will simply out perform the floorstanders in exactly the way you described it & then some. The floorstander only brings a lower bottom end to the table but simply can't pull off what a monitor can do. That's simply by design, a simple 2 way keeps the bottom end out of the mix, by adding a quality well calibrated sub now you have a system that will excell in all areas. Almost all speaker designer will tell you that a 3 or 4 way design is full of comprmises & that a 2 way design emulates the point source correctly.

Now don't get me wrong here, floorstanders can & do sound fabulous & many folks are tickled pink at how well they sound. Again, it's all in what you like.

Another vote for monitors here. Once you hear a good monitor, there's no going back. Best 2 channel experience I've had. Of course different strokes for different ears.

That's interesting, because I had the exact opposite experience when I went from the Taylo Reference Monitors to the VMPS floorstanders. The floorstanders simply filled up the room with music; the monitors were anemic, by comparison. Hell, I even posted this topic here: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46434&highlight=VMPS+Tower

I do not think I would be off base to say that when I listened with Trey he enjoys a more forward presentation, the room at the Fest where Taylo's were could provide this. The speaker itself is forward sounding as well. Not unusual for folks to enjoy this sound.

Glad you are finding your nirvana and good to hear you have taken the subs out of your mix.

Trey, have you played around with room treatments yet? thats usually a good place to move to when your gear is where you want it to be.

from what you have said in the past, you might very well benefit from it.

Jesse, I also thought the look on Trey's face when the tweet let go hilarious. of course, its hilarious only because it was repaired ;)

That was actually pretty funny. He looked like a dear in the headlights, just frozen. Hehe. When I got my 7U's, I pretty much had the same face Trey had as my crossover assembly was damaged in transit because of a glue failure holding the large cap in place. Thank above for being able to repair both Trey's and I's speaker quickly!

Trey, you surprised me for a second....but only a second. I thought to myself either he went ahead and pulled the plug on the upgrade or he's BS'ing. I'm looking to upgrade to the Woodmere II's whenever I can swing it unless I can find a really good deal on the Woodmere's. We'll see. We still need to plan on visiting Ty sometime soon. We'll have to time it to when he'll have a pair in his showroom.

    Yep. Me, too.

I like the vocals to be in front of the music, not competing with it.

Ever go to a concert and the instruments are drowning out the vocals? Aaargghhh - I hate that.
