    Similar questions/discussion starters would be:

    What's the best pickup truck?

    Who makes the best shotgun?

What musical group is the all-time best?

Could you give us a little more info on what type of music you listen to, source components, what type of sound stage and presentation you prefer, listening room description, etc?

I prefer the sound of Vintage Tannoy 15" woofers in a well built cabinet and rebuilt crossover. But as mentioned above, to each their own.

Bose cubes, and last time I checked, two of them cost about $2K.

The LSi15 is no slouch and beloved by many.

Magnepan 1.6's, although they won't have the bass of the Amazings. You might look at used Innersound electostatics, or used Martin Logan electrostatics. A used set of good condition Dahlquist DQ-10's might also be in the ball park. Lot's of good choices in the price range you are looking at. Do some travelling and get your listen on.

I'm assuming you're close enough to go look at them, listen with your music, and pick them up. A day at Saturday Audio Exchange can be very insightful. Good people and some neat gear.

Well, since this is a Polk forum. Give the LSi15's a try. They are right there in your price range.

You own a pair of Carver Amazings, and are considering an upgrade to Cerwin-Vega?

You may want to come back armed with a little more info than you've already got under your belt.

If you have ALS Platinums that are in good shape, IMHO you already have the best full range speaker under $2000. Let me know if you find anything better. I'm betting you won't.

I have some Ohms in the GAYrage. I think they do a great job, because the image stays stable as you move around. They like space.

something about putting those Legacy's in a garage.............unless its a kick **** garage, lol. I have a second "fun rig" that I use to play with stuff in a completly different direction than my main 2 channel rig. for example, my fun rig I have in a small room with bookshelves and a little tube integrated......will try a tube pre and amp too just to experiment....the point is, it is fun to experiment and I dont have to f**k with the main rig since it is right where I like it.

Perhaps do something like that with your garage rig. try different things to see what you like and dont like. You'll learn alot about different gear, and knowlege in this hobby can save you a SH*TLOAD of money :D

to go this route, you would probably want to roll with used gear to mitigate losses on resale.

definitly try LSi15's, beloved by many as well as underated by many here in my eyes. I had LSi9's and 15's in my 2 channel rig and loved them. only reason they were moved was becuase I decided to base my home theater on them, where they serve to this day and the forseeable future.

I have Carver Platinums, but I cant get them to sound as good as I know they can sound in my basement 2 channel area, I use Teledyne (Acoustic Research) AR9's with HUGE success. 800 used tops and it performs VERY well in my system. Biamping = a good thing with these. if you really want something that you might like as well as the Carvers, you definitly want to keep your eyes open for a pair of these to try. like the Carvers though, bring the power!!

Schiit SYS Passive Pre. Jolida CD player. Songbird streamer. California Audio Labs Sigma II DAC, DIY 300as1/a1 Ice modules Class D amp. LSi15 with MM842 woofer upgrade, Nordost Blue Heaven and Unity interconnects.

    Upstairs 2 Channel Rig -

Though its depends on what you consider "full range" -
As a budding fanboy, I must point out that Tannoy DC speakers are highly underrated/under-marketed in the US. That means some great audiogon deals can be bargained on the more contemporary models (the collectible vintage drivers go for serious coin, but some may be in range w/ custom cabinets) - when they do pop up, they receive much less interest than deserved. The Eyris DC3 can be had under $1500, the Dimension TD10 has gone as low as $2500, and the new Revelation series towers should be in range, when they finally come up used. Nothing is more coherent than a (nearly) full-bandwidth point source :)

Also - yes, those Legacy speakers should sound great in the right system, and the price seems right. I had the Signature III, which adds a 3rd downfiring 10" woofer in a sealed configuration, and a poly midwoofer below the kevlar. Another good option, worth exploring. The rosewood finish looks a heckuva lot better though :D
Tannoy Dimension TD10, SOTA Star Sapphire, Heathkit W4A's, McIntosh MC2100, Eddie-Current Zana Deux, Singlepower SDS, Sennheiser HD650, Audio-Technica L3000, Sony Qualia 010

So essentially it's an entertainment space? Why not just say that upfront. How the hell do we know you don't have old bikes, lawn equipment, your mother-in laws remains, smelly garbage, old newspapers, mice, hornets nests and 2 cars in your garage.

It took 23 posts to find out basic info.

P.s. My vote is for some vintage SDA's: SRS 2's, 1C's, 2.3's; 1.2's or SRS's. refresh the x-overs and add the RD0 silk replacement tweeters then kick back and enjoy.

Best garage speaker ever made, Polk monitor 10(A) with the peerless tweeter, about 150 bucks, want a bit more refined with less bass then go for the Monitor 7, about the same price.

Big Ted normally I'd agree, but his "garage" sounds like a full blown entertainment room with 100" big screen, fridge, heat, AC, etc. It's not really a garage. It seems (with the little info he's given) he wants something on the scale of his Carver Amazings.

Thiel makes some good speakers in the $2000 range (yes, I'm a fanboi of Thiel).

Maybe CS 3.5/3.6s if you have a big room, 2.3/2.4s for a medium sized room, 1.6s for a small room.
