after tubes....
I disconnected my Cary V12, toying with the idea of selling her, and hooked the SS Parasound back up...

and while it sounds really friggen good, it just aint what I have become accustomed to....

Now I realize that the new MIT`s are still breaking in, and the new tubes in the SLP-98 are still fairly new, but man what a difference tubes make !!

If you have the chance too try tubes and keep the SS amp to switch back and forth after a few weeks of each, you will see what I mean.

I have a solid base in the Parasound 3500, so I will always keep her as a solid powerhouse (350@8 ohms-500@4 ohms), but I think I will save up and get some JC1 mono`s for the SS side of the Rig...The Cary is a great starter amp IMO, and is worth keeping, she`s a well built , solid unit....and looks pretty damn good too !!

... but I want to try some tube mono`s in the 200wpc and above side ....;)

I am still working on getting my cary 306 SACD player, and they now have a new "Professional" model....whatever that means.....it`s just kinda hard to get that kind of $$ together right now, as I am having to rebuild the bike, and the truck is starting to show it`s age (brakes and tranny)....

but hey, it`s just money, and I love this hobby, and the gratification that comes with a well matched system....
...synergy

the sweet sound of music is what makes it all go away.....and keeps me from having to shine my hammer and go balistic on those around me that need a tune up...

So whaddaya think ?
is there life after tubes ?!!

I guess so....but TUBES RULE !!

I had a CJ PV14LS2 tube preamp & absolutely loved it. Then I picked up a Krell KAV amp & preamp combo from venom. I did A/B listening for about a month...I just sold the CJ to a guy in Georgia. No tubes in the rig now & still loving it. That's why they make vanilla & chocolate. Stick with what makes you happy, be it SS, tubes or a combo.

There's some mighty nice SS out there but it's tubes only for me. I listen to a lot of nice SS gear on a regular basis but the tubes are what do it for me. Just can't get that sound out of SS. Not that they're not excellent, I just prefer the ways of hot glass. NO going back.

I enjoy the mix of glass and SS, but not too sure that a solid SS rig could do it for me after all the tube gear I have had lately...

The Cary 98 pre amp is a stellar unit IMO, and I think it would be hard to beat.....but I keep looking at the SLP-05 !!!!

Cary has some new gear out and I still want to taste some Manley Labs gear.....

I finally got to a point after I got the new MIT cables, that I actually went down and bought a bunch of new Cd`s !!!

Sometimes, like Ricardo said, ya just gotta relax and enjoy the music ......

    I agree..

sometimes the slightest mis-adjustment or wrong turn with a piece of gear, or cables, can screw it up, and make it hard to re-acheive

I have been pretty lucky with finding gear that plays well with each other

I have found myslf tryig to convince myself that it was working just because I wanted it to, but once the cable, or piece of gear rolled out (and tubes for that matter) was changed it got better..

It`s just hard not to keep tweeking and swapping trying to get "better"
that`s when you kinda miss the whole point....it`s all about enjoying the music

I wnder what the speaks the Mark has , the 602`s would sound like?!!

I love my 9`s, but I really want some Sonus Fabers .....:D

    or try some Ushers

    or some B&W

    or some Spendor

    Some electrostats......some horns..

    it never ends.....

but it sure is fun !!!

Just looked at your signature; that's pretty nice gear. You are just missing:

    -A turntable :)
-Try some other speakers; with that kind of gear, get some other monitors and see how you like them (Von Schweikert VR1 would be a nice alternative).

no room for them to breathe...

I agree, but I just don`t have my room completely set up correctly...yet !!

    Steve,
there are a few on the `Gon from time to time, and at a pretty steady price tag...
definately worth it, as i have found the build and sound to be all you would expect it to be....you won`t be disappointed, that`s for sure
Maybe I should sell this one to you and get the slp-05 !!

    Ricardo,

I need to update the sig as I have moved a few things around....but for the most part it`s the same...
I kind of wish that I kept the integrated to try some other speaks out, but...

If you don't have enough room for Magnepan, look into some Elecrtostats as they are a bit more forgiving.

Don't look at it as going back, you just haven't gone high enough. Tubes priced at equivalent SS prices typically sound better, but moving up the $$$ tiers I think the SS equipment sounds better.

Life is too short to have to decide between glass and SS, just get yourself a hybrid amp and you will have a taste of both. Thats is what I did. :)
