Am I alone in thinking this is mental?!?

Forgive the long post, but this is too good not to share. I hope I do not offend. There is currently a listing on that auction site for a pair of Monitor10B so naturally I asked if local pickup was OK. Here's the exchange (this is a cut and paste with the exception of the asterisks):

Is local pickup OK? BTW, the small holes above the binding posts are where a fuse used to reside. Either someone has bypassed the fuse (meaning the tweeter is unprotected) or the tweeter does not currently work. Thought you might like to know before you have to take a return on behalf of your client.

Yes. And We have no clue what your talking about. We cannot see any holes and have no clue what a binding post is. You are free to come look at them yourself and see if anything is wrong

Fair enough, allow me to explain. Binding posts are the red and black connectors on the back where you hooked up the wires when you tested the speakers. The holes above the binding posts (fifth photo from the top) is where the fuse used to be. And, since misrepresenting an item is a violation of e*** policy, I'll just share some additional information so you can properly represent your product (and make no mistake, it is your product, whether you are the owner or the broker). These are two way speakers (the 10" radiator is not a speaker). Practically none of the original parts are available from Polk. The link you put in the posting is for the Monitor10, not the Monitor10B, they are different. Polk's website does not have the specs for the 10B, but correct specs should be available in the manual you have right there.

The Manula for these speakers do not specify any type of fuse involved in anyway. With further testing we believe they are air holes to normalize pressures inside the speaker assemblies. We know that misrepresentation is against E*** Policy. Thank you for being so kind in reminding us. We understand that it our product also. We make money based on if it sells well. We lose money if a conflict arises so we strive to represent every thing brought to us correctly. There are 2 mid rnger speakers, a tweter, and a subwoofer. Every where the Listing employee has been says that makes it a 3-way. Even the the parts are not original they still work. Therefore they are still parts. The Monitor 10 is similar and that link was so that buyers, like yourself if you feel inclined to after asking us all theses questions, to go to and read the reviews. As for iffrences in specs they are minor and have been corrected already. You are new to ebay, and still have a lot to know, our staff studies e*** rules and attend e*** live as well, so we are aware of the policies, but it is really good that you are so into e***, just don't drive yourself too hard to let every one know that you know e*** more than any one. knowledge is excellent be don't be smart on them...Wellcome to E*** world..
Thank you,
E****attic76 staff.
See you at e*** live if you know what is that mean.

Sounds to me like the seller just doesn't give a crap ... maybe 1/2 a crap as they bothered to reply

You could have been more tactful in your second reply and offer of additional information about the product. It doesn't appear that they are intimately familiar with the Polk Monitor series as we may be on this website and that's not uncommon on eBay.

That's certainly one auction to avoid.

No question that I'm tactless...definitely need to work on that. Originally, I was trying to be helpful...then it turned into a whizzing contest.

I do find it funny, though, that the speakers are already over a C-note...and not in that great shape.

The fact that he thinks those little holes are there to minimize pressure is hilarious.

As a long-time eBay seller and buyer, I really wonder about some of these people. Are they on work release from Bellevue or something?

You're allowed to mention Ebay here, this isn't AK.

x2. I don't know why they do that stupid stuff over at AK, it's so annoying to read. Just list ebay? I don't get it.

They want absolute seperation of commerce and discussion. But eBay's mentioned often enough I hadn't remembered until you mentioned it.

AK's not the only board that does that.

How do you honestly sell speakers without knowing what binding posts are? How can you claim to have any knowledge of the speakers if you don't know the lingo?

    I love ebay.

Well this actually works for me, you should try it sometime, you can PM if you dont know how but its works best if you have someone to share the pressure minimization with.

Also I would go with a three-way if at all possible.

I hear all you have to do is drill holes through the cabinet. Only like 4 or 5 if it's a decent sized drill bit.

Hear it completely changes the sound :D

Your reply to them wasn't too tactful, but neither was their reply to you, so I think fairs fair. If they care that little about what they're selling, I'm not to worried about offending them.

I don't get it. There's supposed to be something in the three small holes? Mine has three small holes and if I look deep into the holes, I can see some greyish stuff, but I can't tell for sure from the Ebay picture, that it's missing there.

They finally went for 302.50 (plus shipping...well over 100.00).

Makes me think I should sell mine...right, like I'd actually do that.

Does this work for my Camry too? Speed holes in the hood and fenders should give it somethin' extra. Watch out Jstas. We found the secret

To me, it seems like the biggest difference between the ebay one and others is not the three holes at the top, but the hole in between the two binding posts. The one in question seems to have a hole there.

Another one doesn't seem to have a hole, but the outline of some kind of hole can clearly be seen.

This looks like it could be a fuse, but it seems like most of them don't have this thing, so it could be some jury-rigged thing.
