Too damn cold!!!!

The last 2 days we here in northern indiana have woke up to on monday to 3 degrees and yesterday morning to 9 degrees! and it is only dec 4th. i hope this is not the rest of winter is like:(

    Never talk about cold weather when Ron is on the line. Damn SoCal... It's about a degree here in Baltimore, I scheduled massive contractor work for tomorrow, and Mother Nature (a ****) is about to ruin my plans with the first SNOW of the season. I mean of the last three seasons. And Ron's sunbathing.

    Bah.

    I miss the desert southwest.

    Altho the temps are usually colder in Wisc than down south, there's one thing I don't miss about winter storms further south. The ice storm. Up here, I have not seen a real ice storm in over 10 yrs of living in southern Wisc, but during that time I've been thru 2 of them when I went back to visit Okla over Xmas. You cannot do anything outside the house during an ice storm, your power is often out, & trees, poles, & power lines are always falling. Not only that, but maintenance/plowing crews in cities, states, & counties down South usually don't have the budgeting & equipment for dealing w/it, since it really doesn't make economic sense to have all that salt & equipment for the rare problem. However, when the problem occurs, things come to a standstill.
    Whereas up north during a snow, you can go out & do all kinds of stuff. In fact, a fresh snow, provided it ain't a foot deep, is my favorite time to go running in the winter, since it's beautiful & there's cushioning that protects you from the rock-hard frozen roads, which are not good for your joints. Some outdoor ponds have ice houses for changing into/out of skates, & some even rent them. Sure, you can skate indoors, but outdoors adds something to it. And there's snowmobile trails, etc. In other words, serious winter temps & serious winter weather are not the end of outdoor life if you live in a place that accepts it as a part of life & adjusts accordingly. Nonetheless, seeing a beach full of good looking women in thong bikinis always sounds especially good this time of yr.

    Ron,

    65 is cold for SoCal. I cannot say we in NoCal are as cold as the guys back east, but we are getting into the low 30's at night and about 60 for the days (this is above normal) but I am not complaining.

    You are right. Ice storms suck. Two days ago we had a bunch of ice, followed by 2 inches of sleet, topped off with 3 inches of snow. The ice had trees bending over and breaking. I had to cut limbs just to get out of my drive way. Slipping & sliding, dodging falling limbs, with a nervous eye on the powerlines. Not my idea of winter fun. It was all worth it as I did get Mrs. 6pak to work on time. It is pretty exciting driving up and down these hills & hollers on ice. If you have the guts you can do some pretty wild power slides around the curves. Of course, she does not see the entertainment value in that kind of driving. After all these years, she is still scared. I just don't get it.

    Well in about 4.5 months it will be time to head for the lake & drink a few cold ones. Man, I am counting the days. Did someone say bikinis?

    Yea this time of year we all learn how to do the "old man shuffle"
    walking on ice and falling on your ****! but all in all it is nice to have the 4 seasons.

    We've been in a bit of a cold snap in upstate NY. 8 degrees Monday morning, and nothing over 20 the whole week. It's 12 degrees as I type.
