Watched this last night, on the science channel. I have watched many documentaries like this, but this has given me new info, that I really didnt understand. Like how Netscape and Microsoft. really had it out. Not just the competiveness, but was actaully alot more serious than I thought.

I bought my first PC in '95, with Win'95. I have always used Netscape. It just kinda faded away. I never really understood why. I know Firefox and Mozilla, use the Netscape platform. But it was like all of a sudden, IE just took off in the races and washed Netscape away.

Then the show went to search software, how Yahoo was started and Excite and Google.

It was a very good 2 hour show last night. Its supposed to finish up tuesday night, with another 2 hour special. Very good info.

I'm assuming you meant Netscape Navigator (web browser), not Napster (music / file sharing platform).
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I remember about 15 or so years back, when I worked for a large worldwide CPA firm, the CIO (Chief Information Officer) had teams of people evaluating IE and Netscape Navigator. His team really liked Netscape over IE and word got out that thats what he wanted to implement firmwide.

So the story goes, word also got back to the folks at Microsoft. A VERY high up person at Microsoft supposedly called someone VERY high up at the firm and reminded them of the tens of millions of $$$ of accounting business sent their way.

IE soon after became the browser of choice at the firm.
    No excuses!

Sound kinda like what Microsoft did to Compaq. "If you dont take off Netscape, we will pull Windows"
