I'm looking to get the maximum amount of clarity out of my unit. are there any calibration dvds that help you set the manual focus dead on. I just did it by eye, but think it could probably be better.

I think maybe I went too big of a screen for how close my seats are.
13 to 14 feet with a 100 inch screen.

im detecting just a hint of fuzziness in the background of the out of focus items... the foreground in focus image is super sharp.

so does anyone have any calibration dvds that they like, I would like to calibrate color, brightness and focus.

thanks
if it matters i have the sanyo z2000
Rti10 front, csi5, Rti6 surrounds, PSW505, B&K200.7s2, Onkyo705.

I'm using the Z2000 at the same distance with the same screen size. If you go into the menu, there's actually a test pattern that puts up a blue background with green lines on it. This works pretty well for focus. However, what I like to do is bring up the Z2000's menu and focus using it, carefully adjusting until you can see the gaps between pixels.

As far as calibration discs go, I'm using the white/black level patterns from DVE, but using the patterns from Avia for the rest of the adjustments. However, if you have a DVD burner in your PC, you might go contribute to GetGray - a calibration DVD project that some guys are putting together. They have WAY more comprehensive patterns for digital displays. Basically, you contribute to them via Paypal (like $20 or something) and they shoot you a link to download a burnable DVD image of test patterns. I'm going to be contributing to them soon so I can play with color filters on my Z2000 to max out the panels and get 6500k color temp. Check out GetGray over at http://www.calibrate.tv/

Yeah, I'm tempted to snag AVIA II just to compare it to the original. I love the depth of patterns on Avia, and the only reason I use DVE at all for video is because DVE has better patterns for white clipping and has an honest-to-God Pluge pattern for black level - patterns that I consider necessary for digital displays. Maybe Avia II has added the equivalent.

This will seem contrary to those searching for the sharpest image, but if your screen is large enough to experience, "screen door effect" easily from your seating area, I suggest that you actually run the projector slightly out of focus to get rid of the pixels of SDE.

Proper projection settings rarely have the highest constrasts, brightest image, and most detail, since along with the detail, you get projection related anomolies, artifacts, and poor black levels.

Just my experience, and I do suggest AVIA or DVE for setup help.

thank you for everyone's suggestion, i will pick those up.

dennis thank you, but Im not experiencing screen door effect, it's just background images that are not in focus that are appearing pixelated due to size and my vision which is 15/20, Im probably picking up stuff most people dont... in a couple years when my eyesight starts going it will look perfect, either that or a bigger room that I can push the seats back a couple feet.. I might shrink the image a bit to see if I like it better. I can always make a larger black border.

Yeah, Dennis... at 13' from a 100" screen, you can't see any SDE on the 1920x1080 grid, even with really tight focus. In fact, I can barely see it from 2-3 feet away. Any further than that, it isn't an issue.

I had to defocus mine slightly before because I was getting a moire effect when I focused tightly on my Da-Lite... but that was because the screen had a subtle grid pattern to it. Swapped it out for an Elite 100", which has a scattered diagonal pattern to prevent moire, and no worries.
