Damaged Monitor 5A, worth saving?

Hi, new memeber here. 1st post...

I have a pair of 5As (circa 1982), one was damaged by movers. The speaker wire jacks on the back were snapped off. Are these worth the trouble to fix? Before this happened, they were fantastic sounding. I'd hate to fix only to find the sound quality is affected.

Also, the cloth speaker cover was smeared with vasaline by my baby and left a bad stain. Obviously this is cosmetic, but it chaps me every time I look at it. Would a true Polk-phile every consider recovering with new material (or is that bad form)? Any suggestions about cleaning would be awesome.

PS - this is the only set of speakers I've ever owned, so they've got great sentimental value as well.

Yes, fix them. They are very good speakers.

I love how music can brighten up a bad day.

The jacks are relatively inexpensive to fix, even if you had someone else do it (although it's pretty easy). I don't think anyone here would criticize you for replacing the grill cloth. After all, you're saving a great set of speakers, and ones with sentimental value to boot. Go for it. If you need advice or help, just ask. There's a whole lot of Polk experience here.

I may have some brand new grills.....can you measure them? I also have some spare, original binders that you can have for free. Were they snapped off flush with the terminal cup? or is the cup damaged?
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
