sub not working during tv watching?

Ok, I have verizon fios tv, and whenever i'm watching a show on television, there isn't any sub action. whatsoever. my rti8's put out some bass, but nowhere near as low as the logan does. when i switch over to a movie, it hits me just like it should. so is this an issue with the output of the box on verizon's side, or just...well, i dunno, are my channels just NOT in multi-channel format? (multi-channel works fine on TV, but no sub is present.)
any help would be, well, helpful!

oh, i forgot to mention: i have my subs running from my speakers as line in, that is, i have set my sub to "none", and ran them from my speakers. this way, when in stereo mode, i'll have some sub output. speakers are xover at 50hz.

    On my receiver, and with my DirecTV, some shows are broadcasted in stereo and some in DD.

    The ones in stereo would NORMALLY pump out bass just like the surround shows, but I think when I have my receiver in "fake" surround mode, since there's no direct bass signal, that it doesn't activate the sub.

    I also have Fios but run my sub as a low level line out from the AVR. When audio is recieved as 5.1 it shows on the front of my AVR and I switch to THX mode. Whatever LFE is sent the sub plays. Otherwise I keep it in stereo and if the bass is strong enough from whatever I am watching the sub kicks in.

    I am not sure I understand your setup. You have speaker wire run from your AVR to the speaker and then from the speaker to the Sub?

    That's what I get form it too. If so, I can't see how the sub will get any signal below the crossover point. Can't understand why you would do that.

    Maybe run to the sub, then to the speakers as my HSU can do, which makes sense, but not the other way around.
