RM6880 and onkyo 805 and panny DMP BD 30 bluray

Hi,

I am thinking to buy the panny DMP BD 30 and have onkyo TX SR 805 to do the work for the audio.I am planning to get the polk audio RM 6880(5.1) speaker system for the output audio. Is this set up recommendable? or do I have any other best alternative?

I am wondering what kind of speaker wires and subwoofer cables should I get to get all the juice out of this set up? - I am considering a 14 gauge METRA wire which I was looking in amazon. I know a HDMI V1.3 should do it(monster??? or amazon has a sony HDMI 1.3 for 47 bucks.is that gonna do all the work for both video and the high resolution audio?).they do have some Y subwoofer cables which can connect the mono subwoofer out from the receiver to the stereo subwoofer input to the subwoofer.Other than this Any body knows where I can get the speaker wires and subwoofer cables.Should I check out Amazon? or any retail store? Any idea?I am a newbie So please help.

Thanks in advance
Jingoboy.

I tell you what man for the price that you are going to pay for the RM6880, if you do some internet searching you can come close to the same price buying all separate component speakers. IMO that is more ideal any-day and DEf better sounding then the RM6880! But if you are set on them then yes, 14 gauge wire, a monster Y subwoofer cable, banana plugs (makes everything so much easier), and a 1000 series monster hdmi and you are set!

    Hi cantzme78,

Thanks for your reply..Well I got the RM 6880 for 499 lol i guess its a deal..May be I might think upgrading them to VM series down the road.

Do you really think I have to stick to Monster cables? Does they make any difference? Please advice

    J,

If you want the cleanest sound possible, it is always better to spend the money on higher end cables. The research says that yes, you can tell a difference. Plus, you got a pretty good deal on the 6880 so with the money you saved invest it in the wires!

    Hi all,

I have got the following set up

Panasonic DMP BD 30 Blu ray
    Sony 40 XBR4
    Onkyo TX SR 805
Polk Audio RM 6880 Speaker system.

I am trying to hook up my subwoofer .The thing is I am finding two different set ups

The one recommended by polk is :
Connecting the L and R fronts from the receiver to the speaker level inputs into the powered sub and from the Speaker Level outputs from the powered Sub to the L and R speaker fronts.

    The once recommended by Onkyo
Connect the Subwoofer preout from the receiver to the L and R RCA in to the powered sub( I guess by using the Y splitter Sub woofer cable).Which method is better?

Please clarify as I am a newbie

    Thanks in Advance

The sub doesn't have an LFE in?

If not, use a sub IC (RCA) from the Onkyo sub out, then use the y-splitter to the L/R inputs on the sub.

Go Onkyo's way. Polk has to use instructions that assume the basic and not all recievers have a sub out/LFE.
    - Onkyo TX-SR805
    - Polk RTi8's Main L/R's
    - Polk CSi A6 Center
    - Polk FXi3 Surrounds/Rear Surrounds
    - HSU VFT-2 MK3

yes it does have a LFE in ( L and R RCAs)..I am just wondering should I use the Sub pre out directly from the receiver or the speaker level inputs..which would be the best?

    Thanks for your reply.

I meant a single RCA for LFE. Not L and R ins. But that doesn't matter.

Use the Sub out on the Onkyo. Your receiver (I have it too) should do the crossover etc. instead of running it through the sub and letting it to crossover. You'd have no control of the speakers.

Run everything from where it should be run off of the Onkyo
    - Onkyo TX-SR805
    - Polk RTi8's Main L/R's
    - Polk CSi A6 Center
    - Polk FXi3 Surrounds/Rear Surrounds
    - HSU VFT-2 MK3

I am running a single rca from the sub out on the onk to one of the L and R in on the sub. Do I have it hooked up correctly or do I need a Y splitter rca? I have a onk 805 also and a SVS 25-31 pci

    Hi bopicasso,

I was going to do the subwoofer out using RCA(using Y spiltter) but by reading the forums I see that you can use a Single RCA jack too from thre subwoofer out frm the onkyo to any one of the RCA in the subwoofer

But i read an article from the polk site.So I am trying the speaker level inputs for now and see how it comes out..below is the link for the article and refer to Page 18.

    http://www.polkaudio.com/downloads/newspaper/issue11.pdf

After connecting I did the auto calibration .But the Auto calibration didnt detect the subwoofer. Is this normal If I am connecting the sub by using the speaker level inputs?I dont know whether I am doing the right thing?

If I am running the auto calibration:
    1) should I still have to go and change the speaker settings manually?
    2) should I need to specify any crossover frequencies?

If that is the case I wanted to know how/where we can go and change the speaker settings in the receiver ( i.e Setting the speakers to LARGE and subwoofer to NO.)

I went into the speaker settings menu but there is an option for subwoofer. If I set the subwoofer to 'NO' then the front is defualted to FULLBAND. But I don't see an option for the speakers to set it LARGE?

Please help me as I am a newbie and sorry if this is a dumb question..

    Thanks in Advance
    Jingo.
    Thanks,
    Jingo.
    hope it helps,
    Jingo.

I don't know why you'd want to hook the sub up via the speaker wires when the Onkyo has a dedicated sub out with output control. Plus, watching DVD's (either SD or HD/BD) that are encoded with a 5.1 mix, the receiver will decode the LFE (low frequency effects) that are in the movie that are designed to be there.

Use the RCA to the sub...nix the speaker wire inputs.

    Hi AVguy,

    Thanks for your reply!

I read this article and followed this one.(refer page 18)

    http://www.polkaudio.com/downloads/n...er/issue11.pdf

Should I still use the RCAs for the sub?

    Thanks
