This might have been covered..did do a search..what input sounds best to you...I hear a difference between using hdmi and optical on my cd player...with optical sounding better highs especially....or maybe its all in my ears??? plus these speakers keep sounder sweeter the more i play them...they sat for over 10 years in storage unused....yes I did read a similar post about stored speakers rebreaking in...for me the highs have smoothed out alot...mids a wee bit better......or maybe my ears have retuned themselves..who knows..it sounds fantastic to me..have increased music listening time by 60% and rarely turn on the tube of boob...this is a good thing thanks

The term sounding better is certainly subjective. I have my pre-pro set to have the CD and DVD come in on separate inputs, either digitally or via analog. Some things sound better to me on one source, while other things sound better on the other source.[

everything sounds better in Optical or coax output compared to HDMI exept Dolby TrueHD soundtrack and DTS master HD
Usually I prefer the coax sound over the Optical sound, even if the two are digital, there's a small audible difference. -
What's wrong with analog? I've heard of no issues throughout the years with the exception of compromised cables and no improvement with other connections, yet other issues.
Which leads me to why bother? 2 channel only.
....HT need not apply.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
I use cables to hook up my pre amp to my amp, then more to my speakers.. all sounds good to me.

It depends on your transport. I have a Sony crappy CD changer, and the analog doesn't sound as good as letting the DA conversion take place in my Outlaw 990. With my Sony DVD player the DA is pretty good, and use it for SACD. As for digital cables I bought a decent coax to compare to an optical, and the coax is way better hands down for music, and movies. I didn't expect a difference, but I am convinced it is the digital to optical-optical to digital conversion where the coax is just straight digital.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

you can use quality analog cable if you use good quality CD player. This will use the CD Digital to analog convertion and give good results, sometime better than using the Receiver DAC and using optical out from your CD. Try it and keep the best connection.
My hd-dvd HD-XA2 player sound best and louder with analog out to the analog in of my yamaha htr-5960 using quality rca interconnect and pure direct mode. Using also quality optical or coax output, the analog sound best on this player. My panasonic dmres25 dvd writter sound best and louder in optical. -
Analog cables for life.
