Kinda stunned at this one. He wasn't all that old. Wonder what happened.

Wow. That is surprising. He seemed to have gained some weight in the past few years(I watched that TLC or Discovery show pretty religiously). Not only that but every one of his big builds seemed to be high pressure, high stress jobs and I would guess that started taking its toll as well.

All that to say, the man built some beautiful cars and wheels throughout the years.
I know just enough to be dangerous, but don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm a genius. :D

That's crazy. He built great cars, but I after watching the show and seeing his personality, I wouldn't want to meet him. Sad day though.

I didn't hear anything about it. That is a bummer, he did put alot of stress on himself. I wonder if any of the guys are going to keep the legacy alive by keeping the business going?

I was a huge fan of his work. His wheel designs were outrageous! I also watched American Hot Rod religously. He reminded me alot of my father. Laughing with you one minute and yelling at your the next.

RIP to the Boydster and it's builder.

And who could forget "CadZZilla" designed for Billy Gibbons and ZZ Top. It was said to be one the favorites of Gray Baskerville, the Senior Editor Hot Rod and just think of how many great hot rods he saw over the years.

Wooow, that really is a shocker. Can't say as I was a fan of the man or the show, but judging by the pictures here, I'm definitely a fan of his work!

RIP Boyd......I loved watching American Hot Rod on Discovery. What a shock to hear of his death.

I watched the show some...but like most of the reality shows there was too much fluff. His shop foreman appeared to be an idiot with no people skills...not a good way to run a business. And every show had a contrived "sense of urgency" based on a "deadline" for some stupid reason or another. Of course those other 30 rods sitting in the shop were never getting any work. Reality TV generally sucks.

My favorite Coddington hot rod is the original Boydster. Simple but with sophisticated mechanicals and still a very classic hot rod.
