Speaker Upgarde for Onkyo HTIB.. advice
Hi guys i am a rookie..Please help
I am currently having a Onkyo HTS-590 HTIB.i am planning to upgrade the speakers, mainly the front and the sub.
Receiver: Onkyo HTR-340 (Onkyo Sr-304..i think)
i dont want to upgrade the receiver as the room is small and i am okay with 5.1 for now.
Please advice wheather the below configuration will sound good with my receiver.
Front : Monitor 60's or RtiA5
Sub : PSW 125 or DSW pro 500
Centre and surround: retaining the onkyo HTIB speakers for now.
Also to note my receiver doesnt have a sub pre out.
Please advice as i plan to keep this HT setup for long run may be 5 to 7 yrs atleast.
what else do you recommend...will a Denon avr 1508 make a difference.
Thanks in advance!

I can offer advice on two things.
The DSW500 takes the cake over the PSW125.
Your center channel should timbre match your mains. While watching a movie, most information is from the center channel, I wouldn't cheap out there."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
That's a real low end reciever, you may not push those 5's right with that reciever. However that don't mean you can't have better sound....comming from an onkyo htib I understand how you feel. To this I will say that I have a perfect soulution for you and will PM you with it.Retired Onkyo 520 (returned broken HK 247)

:)Thanks guys for your advice.
i will try to get a good receiver, which one do you recommend.
Denon avr 1508 or onkyo sr 505 / 605 series.
Also any comment on Klipsch RF-10 or RF-52 series. They seem to have 95db sensitivity, Though the rating for these speakers are 5 star i was not able to get much reviews about these. Will check them out next weekend. -
You're asking a Polk forum if you should buy Polk or another brand. What do you think we're going to tell you?"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Sorry for that, but when i compare polk with other speakers i can come to know how much better is polk.
i have already auditioned polk monitor50/60 and Rti af5/af7 and also speakers like CANTON but still have the sound of Polk in the mind.
Which between the two speakers do you suggest the monitor 60 or the Rti Af5 ,i plan to have a subwoofer PSW 125 or DSW Pro 500.
The RtiA7 series is little over budjet, since i plan for a good sub i think i can do without the bass drivers of the RtiAF5 -
The rti is a much better speaker and the dsw sub is of coarse going to be better.Get an avr with pre-outs so you can add an amp later down the road. The 605 I believe doesn't have pre-outs.Klipsch are easy to drive but some may feel a bit of listening fatigue and the highs may be a bit harsh.Go listen for yourself and if you are on a tight budget, consider buying used gear to stretch the coinage.HT SYSTEM-

Thanks a lot, the only problem is i live in India. And the taxes for high end systems is tooo high. The RtiAf5 speakers a pair costs 950$. The subwoofer around 550$.
So i have to pay double of what you pay there...thats why i have to compensate on products levels.:( -

The pre outs on Onkyo start at the model 705. Believe me I understand the cost thing. They are recommending the preout model's for future upgrades, such as using another amp and using the AVR as a Pre Amp.
I also agree with comment about used equipment.
Not sure how the tax things work for you, but does it differ for the country you get it from? I know Onkyo has several different web sites. Perhaps getting one from say Austrailia might be cheaper or direct from Japan. Only thing you should have to match up is the input voltage and cycles (hz). From what I can tell the rest looks pretty much the same on model numbers.
